MVAOCOU High School has started off this season with all hands on deck, really killing it at 5-0 moving into the third week. The Rams have been an efficient machine, making plays on both sides of the ball on basically every possession. They do have their main producers but this seems to be a team to me that wins by committee. To add to that though, someone that has been a standout as a Senior is [player_tooltip player_id='842574' first='Makynlee' last='Yockey']. Yockey is a SG with a quick trigger and a green light. She primarily plays off of the ball, excelling in catch-and-shoot situations and that was blatant during their battle against River Valley. Yockey did her thing and scored a career high 35 Points on 13-24 shooting. She also grabbed 10 Rebounds and created 5 Steals. When you talk about touching every facet of the game in some way. This is a great example. Yockey went out, did her thing, and the positive results show because of it.

[player_tooltip player_id='582828' first='Dasia' last='Foster'] was a steal by Kirkwood CC. Foster, the 6'3 Center from Oskaloosa High School, helped her team these past few days by putting up major stat lines. In her team's contest early this last week, Foster had a game where she scored 31 Points and grabbed 19 Rebounds. These seem like insane numbers but she is actually averaging 24 PPG and 18.5 RPG throughout her team's first 3/4 contests. It's obvious that this is a prospect with size, future potential, and understanding of what she brings to the court. If she gets the correct work at the next level over the next few years, who knows what she could do after that.

The start that [player_tooltip player_id='311391' first='Morgan' last='Miller'] of Regina Catholic has had these past two weeks deserves a bunch of acknowledgment. So far she had led the Regals to an undefeated start, putting up massive games, night after night for everyone who is watching. In one of their first home tests of the season, Miller managed to put up 31 Points (13-20), 5 Rebounds, 5 Steals, 4 Assists, and 1 Block. It wasn't all Miller as she does have some running partners this Winter but she definitely did her job of standing out on several different levels.

Double team? Triple team? The entire team? Doesn't matter. If [player_tooltip player_id='311389' first='Haylee' last='Stokes'] has space, she is going to make a play when she has the ball in her possession. That's been obvious ever since Stokes was a Freshman and it still couldn't be more true today. To begin the past week, she put up 39 Points (15-23) and 8 Assists in her team's 40 points victory. It's hard for me to say that a game is, "break-out", with a prospect like Stokes but this was blood bath quite frankly. The Midgets did their thing and Stokes played some of the best ball she ever has at the Varsity level. Two things you can't be mad about if you are apart of the ELC fan base moving into Winter break.

Sometimes as a player in this sport, you can only do so much. It's not what everyone wants to hear but it's the reality of the situation. Although Benton Community came up short against the Regina Regals this past week, that didn't stop [player_tooltip player_id='592199' first='Aubrey' last='Kelly'] from putting together an impressive contest. A contest in which she recorded 28 Points (10/16), 7 Rebounds, 3 Steals, 2 Assists, with 0 Turnovers. The final ended up being 43-76, so she recorded a majority of their points and overall positive statistics. Kelly has some talent with better than average size at 5'10. She is a Forward that is usually a mismatch compared to her competition, so it makes sense that they runs everything through her, most of the time.

Prior to this Winter season, we highlighted [player_tooltip player_id='842545' first='Rylee' last='Yager'] for this ELC team as being someone to watch out for. She plays off of the ability of [player_tooltip player_id='311389' first='Haylee' last='Stokes'] and she usually puts up great performances while doing so. In the same contest that Stokes had 39, Yager went off herself to the tune of 28 Points (12-18), 9 Rebounds, 8 Assists, and 3 Steals. This wasn't just a good game for one player but the whole team as a unit. They competed against a team from out of state and they showed them what Iowa is all about. If these two compete like this the rest of the Winter, I'm not sure who will end up slowing them down at the State Tournament...
