AVCTL/GWAL Challenge Day 3 Standouts, Part 1

Day 3 of the 2025 AVCTL/GWAL Basketball Challenge ran as scheduled on Saturday with six boys and girls games running back-to-back at Park City Arena. Eisenhower vs Wichita East opened the day, Derby vs Wichita Southeast closed it and the most exciting game of the day, Andover Central vs Kapaun Mt. Carmel, was sandwiched in between. Enjoy my look at standouts from the six teams spread out over three articles. First up, Eisenhower and Wichita East.
Wichita East
The quick, fast point guard also has a solid build. She was really good scoring off the catch while on the move. She also made good decisions when given perimeter shot opportunities. Galbert's hops and build made her competitive on the glass. And while I would like to see more consistency with her balance Galbert is a quick, sit-down defender on the ball and wing. Lucas showed off both her strong handles and her shooting chops by knocking down a set of three point shots. And while she has quick hands and is a capable defender her light build caused her trouble staying with physically bigger guards running through screens and flashing through traffic in the paint. An important part of the Blue Aces' young team. Davis is a big-bodied big with good north-south speed that is not easily moved on both ends of the floor. A formidable presence with her size. What really caught my eye was her quick feet and face-up ball skills within 10' of the basket. She generated several scoring looks getting to the hole. Most defenders do not have the physical size or length to slow her down. The Blue Aces big has good north-south speed and, due to her physical size, is not a player easily moved on the block on either side of court. I really liked how she jumped to the ball and got up going after rebounds. Davis also cleared the ball well.
Eisenhower
Bedore lead the break well and showed good overall handles. She consistently found the right play to be made in transition and in the half court on the way to collecting several assists. A good passer to on-the-move teammates Bedore is overall a very heady point guard. Friend played the 4/5 spots most of the game and did so very well. She brings good size to the forward spot and defends solidly on the wing and inside. Friend read passing lanes well to generate picks and deflections. She really shined on the shot block, collecting at least 5 by my count. Against perimeter shots, basket drives and opponent post-up games Friend was very heady and effective without fouling. Blue is a solid all-around post who led her team in scoring with 12. A player who plays bigger than her her height, she competed well for rebounds, made quality passes and used her size effectively to generate shots. She also knocked down a pair of three pointers. She led her team in scoring with 12. Her off-the-bounce ability was consistently solid. Playing all five spots Barger showed that she is perhaps the Tigers' best all-around athlete. Barger buried perimeter shots in flow, finished with speed and scored well on the move including off the catch.
