Catalina Foothills is Putting Together a Special Season

Head Catalina Foothills Coach Jake Martinez has had some good teams in his tenure at the helm of the Falcons but this season is looking different. They are sitting at 4-0, so the bulk of their games are still ahead of them, but they have beat some really good teams that are Playoff condensers year in and year out including Mica Mountain, Sahuaro, and Nogales. They are led by last season's Region Player of the Year Clara-Mae Hager, and she is off to a fast start and showing that she is on a mission. The Falcons also have a very nice supporting cast that will give them depth and experience to a squad that will need both as they pursue a deep playoff run. Here are some players that will have big impacts on the success of this years team.   Falcon Standouts:    Mercy Martinez is a prototype small forward that can give you rebounding, shooting, and athleticism. She is an experienced player that will be a huge factor for the Falcons as they push for a Playoff run. She has very nice skills around the basket offensively and she is a solid mid-range shooter. Defensively, she is athletic and can cover multiple positions.     [player_tooltip player_id='1197403' first='Ally' last='Rosas'] is the swiss army knife for the Falcons. She can play multiple positions on Offense and Defense. She is a very good rebounder and can score around the basket and mid range jump shots. She understands her role on the team and is very coachable.       [player_tooltip player_id='1197413' first='Mariah' last='Benjamin'] is definitely an under the radar player that has tremendous upside. She is a very athletic guard that is a solid defender but also an underrated shooter and scorer. She can hit the 3 with a high percentage, and has shown the ability to hit them in critical junctures of the game. She is an important piece of the puzzle for the Falcons     Kayanna Chief is an outstanding Small Forward that is just now tapping in to her potential. She is a deadly 3-point shooter. She has an uncanny knack of being in the right place offensively to score especially under the basket. She is a good defender and rebounder. She is definitely a Player to Watch as the Falcons progress through the season. She is an outstanding Point Guard that can handle the ball well under pressure and she can distribute the ball to open players consistently. She is a good shooter and defender. She makes the show run for this team and is very good at it.     [player_tooltip player_id='1139270' first='Jamie' last='Meyer'] is the new kid on the block for the Lady Falcons. She is the only Freshman that is getting playing time for this experienced and talented group. Meyer is a very good shooter and has a very good basketball IQ for a Freshman. She is also not intimidated by the moment of big time Varsity level games. A Player to Watch for sure.
