This is a discussion revolved around the underrated talent from the region. Usually, the conversations in January focus on top tier talent, but this year is something different. It's imperative to mention players that may have fallen under the radar. Below are a couple of '25 and '26 underrated girls.

The transfer point guard has started to get it rolling after figuring out the best way she could help strengthen a loaded PSA team. Janaya has been a productive facilitator that's also got after it on defense. She's coachable and brings a heightened energy to the game. The quick bursts combined with her fast feet make her a tough matchup to keep up with on both sides of the floor. Janaya's efforts merit some recognition. She won in public school last year and she wants to win big on the prep scene too. Colleges should be aware of this mighty point guard.

Higgins' exposure to NEPSAC and high-level play in AAU has served her well so far this season. She's a big reason why the team is now 10-0. Higgins has found ways outside of being a shooter to contribute to winning basketball. Evi has made it a point to get on the glass, as well as advancing the ball for efficient offense. Not to mention the solid team defense she's provided thus far. Higgins high defensive IQ allows her to be in the proper position to help hinder the opposing team's offense. She's currently ranked right within the top 50 players in the class, but with this solid play, she could easily climb even higher.

Shah's creation alone is enough to keep her in this conversation. The 3-point shooting and her ability to get all the way to the basket without excessive dribbling is noteworthy. She's long, plus she has enough versatility on the perimeter to play on or off the ball. Kylee brings a lot to the table and she's a key factor for Middlesex. Kylee brings a bunch of value.

[player_tooltip player_id='1045928' first='Abeba' last='Gametchu-Walker'] (2026) | 5'9 SG | BB&N

The BB&N guard's recent play has many believing the ascension is authentic. In the Deerfield Tournament a few weeks back, Gametchu-Walker helped lead her team to victory, winning the whole thing. Her 3-point shot was highly effective and she wasn't hesitant either. The release point is ideal, so defenders aren't much of a factor once she's engaged. Gamechu-Walker is moving fluently and she's a rather agile athlete, but most importantly she looks the part of a next-level player. AGW's high ceiling certainly can't be denied. The hard work is starting to showcase itself and her efforts have made it apparent that she's a talent to keep watching as she continues to blossom.

[player_tooltip player_id='735527' first='Zoey' last='Canning'] (2026) | 5'7 Foward | Northwest Catholic

Zoey's utilitarian game has many essential qualities. Canning's terrific abilities make her the perfect puzzle piece for Northwest Catholic, a squad on a dominant run to start the season. NWC is a top team and Zoey has been irreplaceable for them. She's a hardnosed forward that puts the ball on the floor plus a major target for teammates. Her aggressive takes make it obvious how determined she is to get to her spots. The long-range shooting is pretty solid too, especially for someone that does so many other things on the court so well. She sheds off contact met while in route and gets to the line a fair amount. The defense must box her out, if not, they're in for a long day. Zoey's excellent vision must be noted too; she makes plays when it seems there's nothing available. Canning's defense deters many presences inside. She makes statement blocks and can easily hold her own against bigger post players. Zoey is a player that's more than capable of guarding at least 3 positions with ease. Even though she has a strong base, she's rather nimble on her feet. Currently the #59 ranked player in the class, with more stellar play, she'll surely rise.
