In this classic Jeffco matchup the hosting Ralston Valley Mustangs, led by sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='793048' first='Santana' last='Sabus'] battled with [player_tooltip player_id='470937' first='Jordyn' last='Washington'] and the Columbine Rebels all the way down to the last second but still came up a bit short losing 40-46. Both teams are looking great at this point in the season. This should set the stage nicely for the rematch February 13th at Columbine High School. This game included many standouts on both sides. And don't forget to look for the sleeper at the end. Check out the article for the complete rundown.

Brock is a gem for the Rebels. She is one of those players who always seems to be open. Whether on a cut through the lane or a skip pass, she's always in the right spot. Do not let her size fool you, she plays in the paint like a post. Behind strong cuts and even more powerful finishes, her points in the paint are wonderful to watch from a smaller guard. Trying to keep her out of the paint will only move her scoring to other areas of the court. Brock is just as efficient from mid-range and the three, making her a true offensive threat. On the defensive end, she gives up nothing with her size. She can be found on the wing closing out the best of shooters or battling in the paint for boards. Kortney will definitely be an asset that helps Columbine into the post season.

Taylor is a pure athlete. Her multi-sport discipline shows on the basketball court. Her length is one of the first thing that stands out because she uses it to her advantage at both ends of play. On offense she is able to slash through defenses to find the open mid-range shots and layups that make up her nearly 15ppg. On the defensive end she seems to be a part of every trap and constantly poking and grabbing for steals. Even at her fast pace of play, Speir is under control, making the important plays for her team.

Alfaro, listed as a PG, can easily play any guard position. Her handles are exactly what to expect from a point guard. Effortlessly pushing the ball in the open court and making smart, in-game decisions in transition. She can find her teammates for open shots and create shots for herself, making her always a threat when the ball is in her hands. On the defensive end, Mia, wants to be matched up against the best. Prideful in her on-ball defense, she can be trusted on the top of a press or zone or on the wing closing out to shooters. Her length helps grab steals and rebounds alike. Alfaro will, without a doubt, be an integral part to the Mustangs post season success.

Washington is a point guards, point guard. She excellently goes from first gear to third gear, always under control and always looking for the next best play. She is unselfish; with the court and game awareness to find her open teammates or her own shot. She is a threat any where on the court with the ability to shoot from behind the arch and also get the ball to the basket. A true team leader, Jordyn is always communicating, giving high fives and a is a reliable court general. Don't sleep on her at the defensive end, Washington has the quickness to guard on the perimeter and the strength to get stops in the paint when needed. Look for her in transition to take the ball to the bucket strong or dish to a teammate for a quick assists. Washington will be a key part of Columbine's strong season finish.

Abraham is without a doubt, exciting to watch. She plays with at an exciting pace that pulls her teammates right up with her. She is quick to the basket, cutting through defenses for strong, post-like finishes. It almost amazing how she seems to end up open, under the hoop all the time. Mason, is a perfect compliment to her other guard teammates, able to handle the ball under pressure and hit open shots from all spots. Defensively, Abrahams is crucial. She is quick with her feet on dribblers, not afraid to battle with a taller post player, and in the right spots for rebounds and quick transitions.

This sleeper comes off the bench for Columbine. A smaller guard, Alexa isn't without heart and that shows whether she gets 15 minutes or 15 seconds. A fundamentally sound guard, Alexa can is confident with her dribble and can handle the ball in the back court and run offensive sets. Her shot is on point from mid-range or from the three, giving herself and her teammates confidence when she's on the court. She is a skilled passer with great post entry awareness, rounding out her point guard abilities. On defense, Freyre, is can guard dribblers or close out on top shooters. She also isn't afraid to get in the paint and boxout for key rebounds. Watch for this guard to step on the court for key minutes in the second half of Columbine's season.
