I caught the opening day of the 2025 Sterling Invitational. It was a great opportunity to catch every team since every game runs back-to-back. This post is the second in a series of three player reports from that day. In this report I share my all-Sterling Invitational Day 1 second team. After reviewing the team below be sure to review the five players selected to the Day 1 first team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1059093' first='Kyiah' last='Samuelson'], 5'7", SF, Southeast of Saline, 2028 - There was a lot to like about Samuelson's game. She competed on the offensive glass and had a couple good 'and-1' put-backs. By my count she went 7/8 from the line to go with a couple buckets and a made three. A good off-ball defender who picked up a few steals Samuelson ran the floor well and was just a player a defender had to keep a thumb on.

[player_tooltip player_id='616755' first='Elsie' last='Boughfman'], 5'10", PF, Smoky Valley, 2025 - With good size, strength and scoring ability around the hoop Boughfman was big problem inside for Hugoton. She showed flashes of game I know she showed in the past including handles and speed with the ball in transition. Early she did not show herself to be a scoring threat but once she settled in Boughfman went to work piling up points and rebounds to lock up a double-double. She put up 13 points, went 5/7 from the line, and pulled down - by my count 11 boards. This season is Boughfman's first on the court since a injury took her away from her junior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='939120' first='Natalie' last='Villegas'], 5'4", CG, Hugoton, 2028 - Villegas is a key cog in the Eagles' half court offense. She showed headiness defending, rebounding and picking her spots putting the ball on the floor. Villegas shot the perimeter jumper smoothly and showed three-point range. She also generated a couple assists and a few steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='1161400' first='Peyton' last='Gentry'], 5'7", PG, Scott City, 2027 - Gentry showed me several things. She knocks down jumpers with elevation and good arch. She also showed handles in the half court to drive across the lane for a slick layup.

Shay Watkins, 5'11", PF, Kingman, 2025 - Watkins brought good size, length and hops to the floor. A good garbage collector, those attributes helped her get put-backs off several offensive boards. Her north-south speed was solid. She went to the line several times but in the future I would like to see her tack on more points with makes.
