When people talk about the race for the top in Class 3A there is plenty of chit chat right now about 17-0 Marshall, 12-2 Alexandria, 14-1 Orono, 11-3 DeLaSalle, and 10-5 Benilde-St. Margaret's, the defending state champions. The team that seems to get left out of the conversation is 15-0 Monticello. After watching the Magic live on their home court Friday, I can say with confidence that this is a team that should not be overlooked.

Let by Division 1 point guard prospect [player_tooltip player_id='515676' first='Samantha' last='Voll'], the Magic did not disappoint in an impressive win over an up-and-coming squad from Rogers. Voll went 11-for-19 from the field and 6-for-8 from three-point range as she scored 29 in the victory. She actually had another three-pointer waved off on a shot-clock violation that wasn't. We saw lots of great work from the twin towers [player_tooltip player_id='676689' first='Addison' last='Ruda'] and [player_tooltip player_id='676690' first='Abby' last='Ruda'], as well. But there was one other less-heralded competitor who turned in a notable performance. That's where we'll begin our recap of the Week That Was #9, where we racked up plenty of miles and watched a lot of good basketball.

STOCK RISER OF THE WEEK

[player_tooltip player_id='1150682' first='Aubrey' last='Krienke'] – 2026 guard, Monticello

We've always enjoyed watching Aubrey do her thing, both at Monticello and with the [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns']. But at just 5'3, and sharing the court with a dynamic player like Voll who draws so much attention, it has been difficult for Krienke to earn her share of the spotlight. Fortunately, we were in the right place at the right time on Friday to see Aubrey turn in an outstanding performance as she sparked Monticello to a huge sprint early in the second half.

Pictured above, Aubrey was flying up and down the floor, making plays and scoring buckets. She went 6-for-10 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. She really excels in catch-and-shoot situations, with the ability to corral the pass and launch her shot smoothly and quickly in one fluid motion with a high arc. That's especially important for small guards and Aubrey clearly has that figured out. Krienke isn't afraid to attack, either, and she is a forceful defender for her size. Aubrey played with poise and confidence while delivering energy and aggressiveness in mass quantities.

PROSPECTS TO WATCH

[player_tooltip player_id='764207' first='Kinnley' last='Colligan'] – 2027 guard, Rogers

When we've watched Kinnley in summer ball we've always felt she was a talented prospect with next-level potential. This winter that potential has blown up into production in a major way. Last week the 5'10 sophomore had a 32-point explosion against Blaine and is currently leading the Royals in scoring at about 18 points per game. Watching her live on Friday in Monticello, it's pretty obvious that Kinnley has elevated her status among Minnesota sophomores.

Like Krienke, she excels on the catch-and-shoot with a smooth delivery and high launch angle. The difference is, Kinnley is tall and lengthy and has some bounce. That's a combination that is very difficult to defend from distance. Colligan is a good athlete who has pretty light feet and moves really well. You can see for yourself this summer when she will play for Jamie Broback's 2027 [program_tooltip program_id='712665' first='Metro' last='Stars'] team.

One other Rogers youngster to keep an eye on is 5'10 freshman Adelyn Utes, who scored 10 points and showed a lot of potential. She is long and lean and has a ways to go in the strength department. It wasn't easy for Adelyn to match up with the Ruda twins but she played hard and earned her opportunities the old fashioned way. This was our first in-person look at Utes and we'll definitely follow up again down the road.

JUST CHECKING IN

[player_tooltip player_id='478362' first='Morgan' last='Korf'] – 2026 guard, Pelican Rapids

During the AAU season, Morgan is front and center appearing in the uniform of [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] and playing on the big stages every week. During the high school season, however, we don't see a lot of Pelican Rapids where Morgan's dad Brian is the head coach. Unfortunately, the Vikings schedule rarely takes them more than an hour or two from home. Rest assured, however, that Morgan has been putting in the work when nobody has been watching. Korf has led her team to a record of 11-3 to date. She's averaging almost 22 points per game along with 7.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.4 steals. Korf is remarkably consistent, delivering double digits every night and distributing the ball at a very high level. The 16th-ranked junior is drawing mid-major interest from across the region.

TEAM TO WATCH

At 13-0 midway through the campaign, Royalton is having a really good season so far led by junior [player_tooltip player_id='502574' first='Haylie' last='Wolbeck'], who just keeps on getting better. On Friday, the 5'10 guard/forward posted a triple-double at St. Cloud with 17 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals plus 6 assists and a block. That's par for the course this year for Wolbeck, who is one of the state's most improved players over the past 18 months. Averaging 15 and 12, Haylie had one game with 13 steals and averages 6.8 per game in that department.

Coach Brad Baumann has a nice combination of size and experience to work with. 6-foot sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id='659120' first='Alise' last='Schoenrock'] is averaging 12 and 8; senior post Addison Schoenrock averages over 6 boards and does hard labor down low; and unsung guard Maddison Albright is a 5'6 junior who is contributing nearly 9 ppg and defending at a high level. The one player who seems to have given the Royals an extra boost is 8th grader [player_tooltip player_id='1002988' first='Chloe' last='Reedy'], who is no stranger to anyone in the AAU realm.

Pictured above, the crafty point guard was a regular as a 7th grader last season for the Royals but this year she is performing at a much different level. After gaining height and strength and experience, Reedy has been on fire. She's averaging 15 points per game on 39% shooting with 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.7 steals. On many nights Reedy never leaves the court.

Despite their success, it will be a big ask for Royalton to get out of section 6AA in March. Sauk Centre sits at 15-0 and there is tough competition from the likes of Holdingford, Annandale and Legacy Christian. Albany is in a rebuilding year, but the young Huskies are starting to figure it out. Albany has won four of its last six games and just might be a dangerous opponent in the post-season.

MILESTONES

Last week we highlighted [player_tooltip player_id='550001' first='Rylie' last='Cother'] of Jackson County Central in our two-part series about all of the talented performers coming out of Southern Minnesota. Just hours after we posted the article, Rylie scored 29 points in a win over Worthington to become the all-time leading scorer in school history with 2,042 points. In doing so, she passed Alaina Wolff, who is one of the best all-around athletes we have covered.

On Saturday at the Kasson-Mantorville Showcase, senior [player_tooltip player_id='252380' first='Kendra' last='Harvey'] of Byron scored 38 points in a win over New Ulm to pass the 2,000-point threshold for her career. Harvey is ranked in the top 25 among Minnesota seniors and has committed to the University of North Dakota.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='515673' first='Brielle' last='Janssen'] of Clara City became MACCRAY's all-time leading scorer for girls or boys. She reached 1,659 points with a year and a half remaining in her high school career. The MSU-Mankato commit is the 14th-ranked prospect in the Class of 2026.

Another [program_tooltip program_id='712699' first='Minnesota' last='Rise'] standout etched her name in the record books last week. Just a sophomore, point guard [player_tooltip player_id='498657' first='Aubrey' last='Steffl'] became the all-time career scoring leader at Cedar Mountain reaching 1,608 points. She is currently ranked #52 in the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2027.
