Outstanding Defense in State Championship Tournament

There have been some great individual efforts, great team efforts, great defensive adjustments, and impressive defensive game plans. In this article we focus on the some of the strong defensive efforts we have seen at the State Championship</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Wildwood played great defense led by the defensive guard tandem of [player_tooltip player_id='646515' first='Zoey' last='Brown'] and [player_tooltip player_id='400803' first='Trinidy' last='Harris'] who were stealing balls like “klepto”. Wildwood collectively forced over 30 turnovers in their semifinal victory. Smith and team took on the defending Champions, Miami Country Day and she had 5 blocks and probably 5 more shots she changed. Not to mention the numerous perimeter shots that were taken to avoid her all together. Smith also had a steal and played good perimeter defense when she got caught the switch. The Freshman big kept the paint protected until she picked her fifth foul. Luis is quick, agile and very athletic . She prevented drives to the rim and contested those that came into the paint. Luis also grabbed 6 rebounds. She finished the game with 2 blocks and contested even more. Davey is a versatile defender who can cover the 2,3, and 4 positions. She is a good at getting steals and taking it to the house. She had 4 steals in the semifinals. Souverain was blocking shots against her opponent who was taller, bigger, and stronger. It didn't matter Souverain kept bringing it. What made her defensive performance special was her ability to cover her man and provide help on the weak side.
