Desert Vista at Gilbert Open Round 2 Standouts

Powerhouse 6A teams Desert Vista and Gilbert hooked up in the 2cnd round of the Open Division Playoffs for a spot in the Quarterfinals. The game was tight the whole way with teams trading leads and momentum throughout. Desert Vista ended up hanging on to a 2 point victory when Gilbert was unable to convert on their last possession despite having 3 shot attempts. Desert Vista was the #14 Seed in the Open Division coming into the game, but they have played a very difficult and challenging schedule so they are battle tested and a legitimate contender for the Open Division Title. They were led by Zaire "Cherri" Hatter, who tallied 18 points and converted some very difficult drive opportunities and showed why she will be one of the highest recruited players in the State within the next two years.   Gilbert played well enough to win the game, but did not play their best game. The Lady Tigers had an incredible effort however from their talented point guard [player_tooltip player_id='589986' first='Isabella' last='Ivy'], who also scored 18 points. Gilbert will be a favorite to win the 6A Division of the State Playoffs going forward, and they definitely have the firepower to win it all.   Desert Vista vs. Gilbert Standouts:    [player_tooltip player_id='797310' first='Cherri' last='Hatter'] is arguably the best Freshman player in the state of Arizona. She is a highly skilled combo guard that has good size and checks all the boxes. She can shoot well, but the best part of her offensive game is getting into transition and scoring off the drive or creating opportunities for her teammates. She is an explosive athlete with a great vertical jump, which makes her a very unique and outstanding defensive player.     [player_tooltip player_id='780442' first='Trinity' last='Jones'] is an outstanding combo guard that has a very high basketball IQ. She is very good at the point guard position because she is a great leader and facilitator. She is a solid defender and can rebound well for a guard. I see her as a Shooting Guard on the next level because of her style of play and her shooting ability.     Malia Yazzie is an outstanding freshman that gives Desert Vista depth and size at the forward position. She can defend well inside and is a solid rebounder. She can score around the rim and is a versatile offensive player in Desert Vista's system. She will continue to grow and develop and will be an intriguing college prospect. She is an unselfish player that knows her role on the Thunder's team, which is mainly a tough defender and rebounder inside. She moves well for a forward and is excellent in transition.     [player_tooltip player_id='589986' first='Isabella' last='Ivy'] is a tremendous point guard that is fast and a nightmare to cover in the open floor. She has several different finishes at the basket or in the paint on the fast break. She is a very good shooter and has deep range. She is a good defender and is a tremendous leader.     [player_tooltip player_id='912406' first='Contessa' last='Ivy'] is a skilled combo guard and has incredible poise for a Freshman. She is calm under pressure and is a very good ball handler. She will probably evolve into a pure point guard, but she can play the shooting guard position. She is a tremendous competitor for a Freshman and will be highly recruited. She is a fierce competitor that plays with high energy and passion. She is a good shooter for a Power Forward so she can play the Shooting guard or both Forward positions on the next level.
