On the first night of Sub-State action in Kansas, I traveled southwest to Osage City.

The No. 1 Seeded Indians (20-1) flexed their muscles, defeating Osawatomie (0-19) to advance in the Hiawatha Sub-State.

Here are four athletes from the game with noteworthy performances.

[player_tooltip player_id='899198' first='Kaelyn' last='Boss'], 5'8”, SG, Osage City, ‘28

Osage City opened the game with a 28-0 scoring run and led 44-5 after one quarter. Boss scored 22 points in the first quarter and made her first eight shot attempts of the game. Boss is ranked No. 35 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. She is a three-level scorer and impressed me with her strength and touch in the paint. She also had four rebounds and four steals in the first half.

[player_tooltip player_id='773208' first='Emory' last='Speece'], 5'2”, SG, Osage City, '26

Speece might be the best defensive player I have seen this season. She has quick hands and feet. She does a good job of picking her spots when attempting a steal and avoids ticky-tacky reach-in fouls. She makes crisp passes and can shoot from deep. Speece dished out four assists and created two turnovers in the first half. The junior guard scored 10 points in the first half and connected on two 3-point baskets. Speece is ranked No. 161 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026.

[player_tooltip player_id='1206523' first='Addison' last='Watson'], 5'2”, SG, Osage City, ‘26

Osage City's talent level does not drop off when they bring Watson into the game as their first guard off the bench. She dropped three 3-point buckets in the first half. Watson also impacted the game on the defensive end of the floor with three steals in the first two quarters.

[player_tooltip player_id='1206524' first='Lexi' last='Boss'], 5'9”, PF, Osage City, ‘25

Kaelyn's older sister is more of a true post player. She is physical and strong. She plays well with her back to the basket and is a beast on the boards. She gets her share of easy buckets off offensive rebounds. Boss scored four points, grabbed four rebounds, and collected a steal and an assist in the first-half romp.
