On Thursday, February 7th I traveled South to see the Blissfield Royals (14-1, D3) host the Ida Bluestreaks (9-5, D2) for a Lenawee County Athletics Association matchup. Blissfield won the first meeting 51-38, but refused to let Ida stay close in this one. After a competitive 13-8 first quarter, Blissfield's dominance on the offensive glass and defensive pressure took over. The Lady Royals controlled the paint, relentlessly pursued offensive rebounds, and scored putbacks. They drove to the basket for layups, converted free throws, and turned steals into transition points. Blissfield defeated Ida 60-25 to keep their undefeated conference record intact.

Here are a few prospects who caught my attention with their impactful performances in the gym on Thursday.

Peyton imposed her will in the paint on Thursday. She ruthlessly muscled her way through defenders to secure 7 offensive rebounds, which resulted in many putbacks off two feet. Peyton sealed her defender in the low post to catch an entry pass and caused a foul after utilizing a drop-step. She converted four free throws with sound shooting mechanics, created steals with her active defense, and made accurate passes to teammates for assists. Peyton led the Lady Royals with 16 points and is the type of player who contributes in all areas to help the team succeed. She will be an outstanding addition to a college program after the season.

De'Mya powered her way into scoring position for Blissfield and refused to be stopped on Thursday. She sealed her defender in the paint, caught the entry pass, and finished strong off two feet. The defense had to foul De'Mya multiple times because they couldn't prevent her from catching or rebounding the ball next to the rim. She knocked down four confident free throws from the charity stripe, corralled several rebounds on both ends, and grabbed multiple steals. De'Mya called for the ball in the post and scored 10 points for the Lady Royals. She will be a post prospect for colleges to keep their eyes on next season.

Ella sparked Blissfield's offense with her perimeter shooting on Thursday. She shoots with good balance and textbook follow-through, burying 3s from the wing and corner. Ella used her quick hands to swipe 4 steals and tossed a long overhead sideline out of bounds entry pass on the money to a teammate. She shifted gears with a shifty crossover dribble to beat her defender then drove downhill to score a layup. Ella added an impressive offensive rebound reverse bucket and finished the game with 12 points. Ella really impressed me with her two-way skillset and looks like a guard with college potential.

AnnMarie had the opportunity to play meaningful minutes with the ball in her hands on Thursday and I really liked what I saw in her game. AnnMarie used a quick spin move to beat her defender downhill and score a left-handed layup. She used a shot fake in the corner then drove by for a baseline floater. AnnMarie swiped the ball away many times and delivered a variety of confident passes with both hands. She forced a travel with her full-deny defensive pressure and secured rebounds. AnnMarie poured in 8 points and is a guard with a ton of potential.

Jessica has had an outstanding career at Ida and is one of their most prolific scorers in school history, passing 1,000 points earlier this season. I saw Jessica lead the Blustreaks to a thrilling victory against Flat Rock last December and honestly believe she could greatly benefit a multitude of colleges NAIA/D3/JUCO. Jessica ran through a double screen to catch and score a wing triple, swiped the ball away for a layup, and worked hard to secure rebounds on both ends. She sealed her defender on the block, caught the entry pass, and used a quick spin move to score high-layup off the window. Jessica deflected passes, communicated directions to teammates, and made smart reads/passes against full court pressure. The outcome didn't go Ida's way on Thursday, but Jess still managed to show her next-level potential.
