Southern Arizona 4A Playoff Preview

The Arizona Interscholastic Association Brackets will be revealed on Saturday, February 15th. To be quite honest, I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how this is all going to work and I'm still a little confused. That being said, there are several 4A teams in Southern Arizona that will no doubt go deep into the Open Bracket or the 4A Bracket. This may be the deepest Conference in Southern Arizona especially since Salpointe Catholic is the overall #1 Ranked team in the State!   Salpointe Catholic, the defending Arizona 4A State Champions are the favorite to win the Open Division. They have played a very tough regular season schedule traveling out of state and securing some key victories, and they also beat the #2 Overall Ranked Arizona team Millennium. They will be without 5 Star recruit [player_tooltip player_id='558893' first='Taliyah' last='Henderson'] (North Carolina commit) who suffered a season ending injury a few months back. However, they still have two of the best players in Arizona in [player_tooltip player_id='558902' first='Hannah' last='Williams'] (Northern Arizona commit), and [player_tooltip player_id='371488' first='Sidney' last='Anderson'] (Grand Canyon commit).   Mica Mt. is currently ranked #5 in 4A, and will be a tough out. Bella Webb, the standout senior guard (South Dakota School of Mines commit), will lead this young up and coming team that has improved steadily throughout the season.   Douglas should also be a very tough out in the 4A Conference. They have a veteran team that is battle tested and has a good combination of inside and outside scoring. Unfortunately, they lost standout guard Scarlette Ruiz to a season ending injury.   Sahuaro is an under the radar team that has played well at times this season, but will have to be playing at their best to advance in the Playoffs this season. They are led by sophomore point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1196484' first='Harmony' last='Twito'] and senior combo guard [player_tooltip player_id='1196493' first='Carly' last='Coolidge'].   Impact Players 4A Southern Arizona Playoffs:    [player_tooltip player_id='558902' first='Hannah' last='Williams'] is the leader of the #1 Ranked Salpointe Catholic Lancers. She is a 3 level scorer, and can play multiple positions both offensively and defensively. She has played year round for several years so she is battle tested and she has a tremendous basketball IQ. She has signed with Northern Arizona University.     [player_tooltip player_id='371488' first='Sidney' last='Anderson'] is the best pure shooter in Arizona in my opinion. She has tremendous touch and technique on her jump shot. She hits from 3 point range on a high level, but she can also hit mid range shots which is a lost art, and she can finish on drives to the basket. She has signed with Grand Canyon University.     Bella Webb is an outstanding combo guard that is also a tremendous leader. She is a true floor general, always making sure her teammates are connected either offensively or defensively. She is a solid shooter but she is most dangerous when she is running downhill on the break either finishing at the rim or making a nice pass. She has signed with South Dakota School of Mines.     [player_tooltip player_id='1140899' first='Amaris' last='Biancuzzo'] is a player that is on the rise. She is a low post player that is getting more and more comfortable in that role. She is athletic for her size, and she is a very good defender and rebounder. She also is a solid passer out of the post which is impressive. If she keeps progressing, she could be a dominant player in Southern Arizona very soon.     [player_tooltip player_id='1196495' first='Julissa' last='Quijada'] is a very high energy player both offensively and defensively. She is a very good shooter that can score on all 3 levels. Her best attribute is her energy especially on defense. She is a good communicator and she forces a lot of turnovers and steals. She can definitely play on the next level.     [player_tooltip player_id='1140901' first='Carolina' last='Anguiano'] is the key to Douglas advancing deep into the playoffs in my opinion. She has an excellent touch on her mid range shots and she can score around the rim. She also is a tenacious rim protector. She is very active and has excellent speed and agility for a Forward. She can definitely play on the next level.     [player_tooltip player_id='1196484' first='Harmony' last='Twito'] is an under the radar point guard that has tremendous potential. She is a savvy ball handler that is poised under pressure and she is a tough competitor. She has a nice jump shot and she can finish on the drive. If she continues to develop, she could have a special career.     [player_tooltip player_id='1196493' first='Carly' last='Coolidge'] is a nice two-way player that has a very high basketball IQ. She is a very good shooter. She is an excellent passer and she can create scoring opportunities off the dribble. She has good size for a guard and can defend both guards and forwards. She will be the key to Sahuaro having success in the playoffs.
