CIF Southern Section Playoffs: Frontcourt X-factors

Any and all championship aspirations (conference, sectionals, states) require a quality big on your roster to make a run out of the CIF Southern Section. Elite shooting and perimeter scoring take you only so far if the team is undersized and/or lacks an inside presence. The ladies below change the dynamic of their entire team. The intimidation factor influences many shots around the basket. Her versatility was the difference and the X-factor. The LSU commit will play more wing in college, but the way she controlled the paint in high school was undeniable. Efficient scorer on quick paint touches against zone defense. Essentially served as a zone buster in the paint. Great body control at her height with the ball handling to score in isolation. <strong>Grace</strong> has the quickness to guard wings. Exceptional middle game that includes a balanced diet of post moves. The potential is hard to miss if you've followed Archbishop Mitty recently. Despite the losing effort in the state title, <strong>Maliya</strong> has been an X-factor throughout their postseason run. Natural small forward with a great feel for the game. She can truly do-it-all. Very few weaknesses. A quarterfinal appearance in the competitive southern sectional is a huge accomplishment and San Juan Hills did just that. <strong>Anna</strong> does most of her scoring inside the arc, but has a reliable jumper. Very solid playmaker on the year, with elite production defensively (4+spg, 1+bpg). The confidence she has in her ball handling ability is key. Runs the floor well. Catches and finishes in drive-and-dish situations. Remarkable recovery on the defensive end. As their 2nd leading scorer, she was consistent throughout. <strong>Jenna's</strong> long wingspan allows for several deflections defensively. Nice feel for the game with decent playmaking ability at her height. RARE height and strength combination at the high school level. Very quick off her feet. This has resulted in averages of 22ppg and 17rpg on the season. I expected her shot blocking numbers to be higher given her size and athleticism.
