NCHSAA State Championships: Senior Standouts

NCHSAA held their state championships this weekend at Wake Forest University where a true winner was crowned in all classifications. While everyone could not win the championship, there were still some standouts on both sides of the scores table. Let's take a look at some of the senior standouts from the events who certainly left it all out on the court in their last high school game.    [player_tooltip player_id='285950' first='NeNe' last='Ward'] took matters into her own hands getting the ball up the court, creating her own space, and scoring through some tough defense. She was always keeping her eyes peeled looking for the next best play. She did well adjusting at the rim protecting the possession from the outstretched hands of her opponents. Her ability to sell her ball fakes with her moves and her eyes made it tough in one-on-one situations. She was scoring on both ends of the rim whether she finessed a reverse layup or scored it dead on.     Emma Johnson had some range with her shot knowing where to make her cut and make the shot. She did a nice job making backdoor cuts finding the opening and being ready for the pass. She stripped the ball away from her opponents trying to get by her being a nuisance on defense.     [player_tooltip player_id='918872' first='Maddison' last='McIntyre'] was doing a nice job drawing defenders towards her and opening up the court for her teammates. She took matters into her own hands handling the ball in the paint using her spin move to create some space and make the two point shot. She follows shots on defense, too, grabbing rebounds. She hustled back on defense even blocking a big shot on a fast break making sure the game stayed close. Off the ball, she made quick cuts getting the pass and going to work. Her on ball defense was one to watch slowing down her opponents bringing it up the court.     [player_tooltip player_id='878739' first='Jaya' last='Hamilton'] seemed to find the opening on the block sliding down into the gap being ready for the shot off the pass. She runs the floor well and was always ready for the fast break pass. She even stepped outside at the top of the key making nice passes to her teammates. Her box out shows her strength being able to move her opponent and make sure they don't have a chance for the ball.     [player_tooltip player_id='762014' first='Sydney' last='Conti'] hit some big shots from deep in the second quarter on back to back possessions giving her team some much needed energy and the lead. She had some tough on ball defense at the top of the key getting wide and making it difficult for anyone to get by her. She knew how to bring energy each time she stepped on the court.     [player_tooltip player_id='879847' first='Heaven' last='Briggs'] was a fiery athlete knowing when to make her move on defense stripping the ball away from her opponents, and she attacked the basket with some tough takes at the rim. She was a tough on ball defender stripping it away from her opponents and jumping in front of passing lanes. She knew when to push the tempo or slow things down.     [player_tooltip player_id='288422' first='Samantha' last='Shehan'] of course showed off her range shooting the ball, and her quick release continued to be difficult to defend. She did a nice job cleaning up the glass on the offensive side putting it right back up for two. She explodes up the court to get the pass on a fast break scoring with ease even flying at full speed.
