Northern Section: Sophomore Stars

The Northern Section's sophomore stars are making a big impact with their scoring, playmaking, and defensive energy. Many are top offensive threats, attacking the rim, hitting deep shots, and creating second-chance opportunities. Defensively, their aggression shows through steals, ball pressure, and strong rebounding. With two more years to develop, these young standouts are poised to become dominant forces in their leagues.    Ahart, a tall forward from Redding, had a standout sophomore season showcasing impressive versatility. Standing out with her ability to score both in the paint and from beyond the arc, she proved to be a threat in multiple areas. With nearly 50 three-pointers made this season, she consistently hit 2-3 shots from deep per game, making her a dual threat. Her height combined with her long-range shooting ability made her a dominant force on the court. Additionally, Ahart's presence in the paint extended beyond scoring, as she was a key contributor on the boards, securing important rebounds on both ends. Her ability to clean up the glass and provide second-chance opportunities for her team further highlighted her all-around game.     Carothers made a significant impact on her team's success this season, not only as a leading scorer with over 13 points per game but also through her exceptional defensive play. A menace on defense, she was consistently locking down opponents, intercepting passes, and picking pockets to disrupt offensive flow. Her ability to read the game and make defenses pay was evident, and she also showed her versatility by stepping up in the paint with some key blocks. On the boards, Carothers was a constant presence, grabbing crucial rebounds and tracking down loose balls at both ends of the court. Her all-around effort helped anchor her team's defense and contributed to their winning record.     Kist, a multi-sport guard from Trinity in Weaverville, CA, had an impressive sophomore season, contributing to her team's winning record. Averaging over 15 points per game across a grueling 32-game season, she showcased her versatility by scoring from beyond the arc with consistency while also attacking inside, drawing fouls, and converting at the free-throw line. Her athleticism shines through her year-round commitment to multiple sports, keeping her in top form as she continues to develop her game.     Brown made a noticeable leap in her second season, particularly on the defensive end. Averaging over 3 steals per game, she showcased her tenacity and defensive awareness. Despite standing at just 5'6", she was consistently grabbing a majority of the rebounds for her team, fighting hard in the paint against taller opponents. On top of her defensive prowess, she was a reliable scorer, averaging over 11 points per game. Brown's all-around contributions were key to her team's success, and her determination to improve each season is clear, setting the stage for even bigger things in the future.     Witzel, a talented multisport athlete, proved her versatility and athleticism this season, making significant contributions on both the court and field. With her volleyball vertical, she was a force in the paint, consistently securing rebounds and finishing with put-back baskets. Her defensive presence was undeniable, as she recorded multiple blocks in several games and showcased her ability to steal the ball to protect the basket. With an average of over 10 points per game, Witzel stepped up in key moments, helping lead her team to first place in the league. Her all-around game and dominance in the lane make her a standout player to watch.
