The Legacy Region Kick-Off started last night, and a few kids played well in the three-game slots we had rolling on Friday. Let's talk about a few of those kids before the games start on Saturday morning.

[player_tooltip player_id='881307' first='Kylee' last='Buttchen']

I felt vindicated last night. I told a few college coaches about Buttchen that I thought she was talented. After I said that, Buttchen went on a run and looked solid for the last ten minutes of that game her Let it Rain team played. She showed that she could knock down shots from beyond the three-point line. Buttchen also converted an and-one late in that game that I still don't know how she managed to finish. I loved what she showed in the last few minutes of that game. Buttchen can defend in chaotic situations and does a solid job finding her shots without venturing too far away from her team's offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='936786' first='Leah' last='Awe']

I talked to Awe's program director last night about her, and he spoke highly of her. I thought she improved since I last saw her in person in November. Awe looked more confident and more in control of her body. She's about 6'3 now and still has some guard skills in her game. However, her ability to score around the rim is something she'd shown in the past year, but not at the level she showed last night. Awe is visibly more physical than ever, and it hasn't been too long since I last saw her. Awe has worked hard and still has room to improve. D1 programs will love her this AAU season.

[player_tooltip player_id='992488' first='Ava' last='Hendrickson']

Since I saw Hendrickson last fall, I thought she had some skills and tools to work with. After sitting for a few minutes at her game last night, she reminded me why I believed that. The West Salem native is a physical kid who can finish around the rim and has more skill than people may think, considering Hendrickson didn't have much time to show it in her first high school season. The [program_tooltip program_id='712778' first='Purple' last='Aces'] forward will be a kid who may surprise some teams this summer with how effective she is around the rim. Hendrickson will have a productive AAU season, leading to a solid high school campaign in her sophomore season.

[player_tooltip player_id='874383' first='Brianna' last='Breese']

I have spoken highly of Breese for a while, and she did well last night. The [program_tooltip program_id='712778' first='Purple' last='Aces'] forward showed her inside-out game and impressed people last night. She's also a physical kid who can play around the rim and may have led the game in rebounding. The Notre Dame forward should be a kid who draws some attention from scholarship-level programs this spring and summer.
