Weekend Insight: Skill and Passion Shine in Texas Basketball

The one word that comes to mind when I think about this last weekend at the Clash of the Clubs/ EYBL session. They say everything is bigger and better in Texas. Well, I will go with bigger, but add a little spice from Tennessee, and we sure do make it better. There were tons of talent in the building. Of course, there were girls who met the eye test. However, there were plenty of kids who, if you watched them play, you were wowed by their athletic abilities as well as their style of play.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I'm just going to focus on what I saw from Tennessee. Though there was a lot of great competition from kids who aren't from our state, my focus will stay right here.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the things that I love is that program directors aren't afraid to go outside their norm and try something new. Kudos to them for bringing our girls to Texas and just allowing them to get some different types of competition. Secondly, those who put on the tournament, big props to you all as well. Great facility. Everything was just clean and nice. Lastly, the young ladies who hooped, great job. This kid was tough, and I love her ability to bury herself in position down low to go to work. Not only did she finish, but when she felt the double-down pressure, she kicked out to open shooters along the arc. She did her thing on the defensive boards as well. She played with great pace and space, got downhill to finish at the rim, and played solid defensively. She seemed to be confident in her actions and played with a lot of poise. Her ability to fly around and contribute in areas when needed was definitely key to the success of her team. Her game has transcended and is starting to attract the eyes of collegiate coaches at all levels. Blessed with size and a whole bunch of fight, she gets after it on both ends of the floor. Scored the ball effortlessly from all 3 levels, made timely assists, and contributed on the boards. Performances like what she did in Texas will definitely help her get on the coach's radar. She rose to the occasion and hit a lot of key shot opportunities, especially when her team needed a bucket. She dialed it up from 3, was aggressive getting downhill, and was solid on D, creating turnover opportunities. This kid has a heart of a lion, and when it is time to compete, she is ready for battle. Of course, she can score from multiple spots on the floor, but her ability to get out of pressure and facilitate the rock is crazy good. She had a solid weekend where she went to work against some top talent. She didn't back down, but gave them a dose of what her game is like. This kid can play, and when she has the rock in her hands, good things tend to happen. Keep an eye on this young lady as she is becoming one of the top kids at this position throughout our state.<br><br></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
