When we talk about the Prep Girls Hoops prospect rankings, we always try to emphasize the fact that our evaluations are based on a player's college potential, not their current performance. At some point you expect potential to turn into production that ultimately results in great college opportunities. Case in point: [player_tooltip player_id='766676' first='Skyler' last='Mancini'].

We've been waiting – patiently – for Skyler to figure out what we've known for a long time: That she has the potential to be a very good Division 1 player. This spring it happened, and Mancini is morphing into something special right before our eyes. The on-court results speak for themselves. The D1 offers are validation. And now it's time to spotlight Mancini's improvement with a nice jump up in the Class of 2027 rankings.

#19 [player_tooltip player_id='766676' first='Skyler' last='Mancini'] – 6'3 forward, Chanhassen

The 6'3 forward is in her third season with Sam Ebenreiter's [program_tooltip program_id='712687' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] 2027 UAA squad, and the coach has had a front-row seat for Mancini's evolution. “Skyler has always had all the ability in the world, but in the past she would be OK at times being in the background and letting other kids take the lead when she had opportunities to attack advantages and take open shots,” Ebenreiter said. “Now she's consistently looking for those advantages and rarely passes up a good look. She's also taken huge steps defensively and on the boards. She has always been a good shot blocker on this team but her ability at 6'3 to move laterally and stay in front of even quick little guards, while also holding her own down low against traditional posts, is incredibly impressive.”

As it does for many young players, the difference all comes down to confidence. With a calm, quiet demeanor, you won't see any outbursts of emotion from Mancini. She just goes about her business. Inside, there must be something stirring. Something big. You can see it in the way Skyler walks, in how she carries herself on the floor now, in her body language. Add to that her improved decision making and a willingness to take shots she has almost always passed up in prior seasons.

“The whole first April viewing period she played well,” Ebenreiter explained. “One of the top teams we played that weekend has a very skilled, very strong traditional big who's the same height as Skyler but much bigger. Skyler played her off the floor. Skyler held her own defensively and then on the other side was hitting threes over her. Once she had to come out and guard the three, Skyler was just driving past her for layups.”

As a result of her recent run of success, Mancini's name is on the lips of numerous college coaches who were very much on the fence before. Since the AAU season started, Mancini has received scholarship offers from St. Thomas, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana State and South Dakota State. We are bullish, as well, and are happy to move Mancini up 7 spots in the 2027 rankings to #19. “Skyler is never too high and never too low. She just does her thing,” Ebenreiter said. “I do think she's starting to see and believe in her own potential.”

BIGGEST OVERALL RISERS

+79 [player_tooltip player_id='1175103' first='Morgan' last='Rysdam'] – 5'8 guard, Braham

Back in February, a couple of weeks prior to our last Class of 2027 rankings update, we first learned of Rysdam. I received a message from [program_tooltip program_id='756457' first='Opportunity' last='Basketball'] AAU coach Selina Mello. “I wanted to introduce you to an amazing class of 2027 player who hasn't been seen yet,” she wrote. “This will be her first spring playing AAU basketball.” As you can imagine, we receive dozens of similar messages on a regular basis and our initial response is usually the same: "Thanks! We'll take a look." Coach Mello included a number of impressive stats in her DM along with a link to some Hudl video.

After watching the video I tried to temper my response, acknowledging Morgan's potential in a measured way. In reality, however, I was blown away by what I saw. Rysdam is long and athletic and moves around the court with that ease and grace that always captures our attention right out of the gate. But it was video. Not as accurate as in-person viewing. And we were already putting the finishing touches on the rankings update.

After calling around to coaches in the region who knew of Rysdam and receiving positive responses, we made the decision to put Morgan in the rankings, something we rarely do if we haven't seen the player live. Just to be safe, we placed her at #114 – just one spot above the final place at that time – with a promise to reevaluate as soon as possible.

Fast forward to now. Ally McGinnis and I have seen Morgan play live countless times this spring. Several other trusted observers have done the same and provided their feedback. More than a dozen college coaches have evaluated her and provided their thoughts. The verdict is in: Rysdam is a scholarship-level prospect who will kill it in D2 and might have a chance to play at the D1 level.

As a result, she now becomes the largest stock riser in this week's update of the Class of 2027 rankings taking one of the biggest leaps up the ladder since we started doing this – a whopping 79 places to #35. It is well-deserved.

Rysdam's speed, quickness and athleticism are obvious. She is highly explosive with the lightest feet and a zero-to-60 burst that would make your mother blush. She moves well laterally, keeps her opponent in front of her effectively, and can guard players aggressively without fouling. Morgan has handles, great shooting mechanics, a quick release and sweet touch.

Rysdam is coming off an outstanding sophomore season for Braham, which won 23 games. Her averages are impressive: 18.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 3.4 assists per game. She was an All-State Honorable Mention. Last weekend she was at it again down in Iowa. Playing up in against solid 17U squads, she had point totals of 18, 20, 29 and 17 over the four games. About right for a top 35 prospect.
