Section 7 Girls Weekend Recap: Who Showed Out in the Desert? PT 1

This weekend was a reminder of just how special the girls' game truly is. I had the chance to take it all in live at the Arizona Athletic Grounds during Section 7 Girls Weekend — and the energy did not disappoint. From incoming freshmen to battle-tested seniors, the gym was filled with talent, effort, and competitive fire. The lights were bright, the matchups were tough, and the atmosphere was electric. The girls came to hoop — and they put on a show.        She set the tone from the jump — sprinting the floor in transition, attacking downhill with purpose, and constantly putting pressure on the defense. Her quick first step and strong handle allowed her to get into the paint at will, where she absorbed contact and finished or got to the line. She played with great pace and urgency, never taking a play off. Even off the ball, she stayed active, found open pockets, and made herself a scoring threat. Defensively, she moved her feet well and competed on every possession. Simply put — she lived at the free throw line and made her presence felt on both ends.     She was one of the most impressive guards I saw all weekend. A lefty with a quick burst, she consistently got downhill and finished at the rim with ease. She pushed the ball well in transition and showcased excellent vision — always finding teammates in the right spots and creating easy opportunities for others. Her handle was tight, and she had the ability to stop on a dime and knock down mid-range pull-ups. Her poise, pace, and ability to read the floor made her a true standout throughout the event     She anchored the paint as a true rim protector — blocking or altering nearly every shot that came her way. Offensively, she showed great patience with her back to the basket, using her size and footwork to carve out space. She finished with a soft touch around the rim and didn't rush her looks, staying composed even in traffic. A strong interior presence on both ends.     She was a reliable floor spacer and knocked down shots from deep off the catch with confidence. With her consistency as a set shooter and her ability to play at her own pace, she never forced the action and always made the right read. She showed a good feel for the game — staying poised, moving well without the ball, and keeping the offense flowing with smart decisions. Her shooting ability helped stretch the defense and open up driving lanes for her teammates.     She had a good handle and was getting downhill anytime she wanted — finishing through contact and not shying away from it at all. Rebounded the ball really well on both ends, creating second-chance opportunities and capitalizing with putbacks. Moved well off the ball and showed she could run the show too when it was in her hands. Just made an impact all over the floor.     She rebounds the ball well and gave her team a bunch of second-chance opportunities throughout the game. Can stretch the floor from three but also gets downhill and finishes at the rim — whether it's a lay or a floater. Moved well off the ball, made smart cuts, and was able to attack both left and right. Quick first step off the rip and got by defenders with ease.
