Hidden 20 Showcase Standouts Pt. 2

On August 8th, the third annual Girls National Hidden Showcase presented by Area Codes Basketball was held at Nelson University in Phoenix. This event featured some of the top players in the state, as well as those from Nevada, showcasing their skills. Here, I take a look at additional standouts from the event.    Amora looked completely comfortable playing in the fast showcase style. Once she got the ball on the open floor, it was tough for anyone to stay in front of her. Her speed continues to be one of her biggest weapons and creates problems for defenses.     Lewis brought exactly what people have come to expect from her. She picked up defensively from the opening game, made life difficult for opposing guards, and continued to show she's one of the better floor generals in the state by consistently looking to create for others first.     Jones brought plenty of toughness to the event. She battled for rebounds every chance she got and did most of her damage offensively from the mid-range in, where she was comfortable using her body to create space.     Perales continues to impress every time out. She always seems to have her eyes up looking for teammates, but she's also aggressive enough to score when the opportunity presents itself. That's a combination that's hard to teach at her age.     Elisea had one of the steadier performances of the day. She never looked rushed, played at her own pace, knocked down shots when they were there, and did a nice job of getting teammates involved without forcing the action.     Avy was one of the biggest competitors in the gym. She handled point guard duties well, made good decisions with the basketball, and, unlike many players in showcase settings, embraced the challenge of guarding whoever was in front of her.     MJ came to play as usual, and it showed. Her size and versatility made her a tough cover as she showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket as well as post up and finish with either hand. She also showed energy on defense, contesting shots and rebounding.     The sophomore point guard played with tremendous poise and good pace. She didn't get sped up and played the way you want your point guard to play. She looked to advance the ball and hit open teammates. On defense, she played very solidly on the ball and made it difficult for the opposing guards.     When I saw her, Liv came out and played very aggressively. She knocked down shots, ran the floor, and finished in traffic. She showed she can play tough, as the games were very physical. I expect a jump in production from the Junior wing this season.     You know what you're gonna get when Steff is in the game. Tough lead guard play, attacking defense, and multi-level scoring. Every time I watch her play, I see the growth in her game, and this weekend was no different. When she got the ball, she was looking to make things happen for herself and her teammates.
