Highlights From The Midwest – Midwest Summer Classic

After doing the Midwest gauntlet of Kentucky and Ohio, I am fascinated with how all these young ladies keep grinding through a very difficult schedule. These were the girls from around the country who impressed me at the Select Events Midwest Summer Classic.    A long athlete, Amel is not afraid to play inside and out and she is absolutely fearless at everything she does for Team G. She uses a strong handle and footwork to create separation on downhill drives and into stepbacks. She is wiry and strong and is not afraid to mix it up with bulkier opponents.     Isabela plays a physical part inside for the [program_tooltip program_id='908739' first='New' last='York Gauchos']. She has excellent size and strength. She moves people off the blocks at both ends of the court. She showed good hands on rebounds and receiving post entry. When she got the ball in the paint in position to score she showed an excellent touch.     Bleu was the go to player for RIBC in Ohio. She is a strong guard who plays with a motor. She did a great job finishing at the rim in transition and in the half court. She was able to be creative in the lane in traffic with scoops and floaters. She also stepped out and knocked down 3-pointers. Her energy was noticeable whether she was in the game or on th bench.     Journey is smooth with the ball and contols the pace for the [program_tooltip program_id='908739' first='New' last='York Gauchos']. She attacks the rim and finishes. She showed seamless ability to play off the ball and not only spot up but routinely knock down 3-pointers. She was a differenc maker on the defensive end with active hands on the ball and the ability to get into passing lanes.     Sidney is a bucket for IEXCEL. On a day where her team struggled to score points, she put the team on her back. She may be undersized, but that did not stop her from getting shots whenever she wanted them. She got to the rim, elevated in the pull-up game and stuck it from deep. She plays with exceptional poise and is the clear leader of this team.     Aaralyn is a strong physical guard for RIBC. She plays hard and wasn't afraid to get on the floor for loose balls. She showed great patience on the offensive end but was ready to shoot it when her number was called. When handling the ball she controlled tempo and made good decisions. She also showed the abilty to play on or off the ball.     Camryn is a lightning quick guard for the Southeast All-Stars. She is a blur in transition and loves to attack the rim. She showed some flash with a behind the back dime in transition, but showed way more substance in Ohio. When she got the opponent on their heels she pulled up and shot it with confidence. As a half court PG, Camryn moved the ball well and showed excellent vision.     Bri has been the top all-around player for the [program_tooltip program_id='714654' first='NJ' last='Shoreshots'] all season. She finished very well in traffic, using length, physicality and both hands to get to the rim. She is always in control on offense and plays at her pace. She is an extremely versatile defender who moves well on the ball and gets lots of deflections with her length.
