Top 5A Prospects No. 6 thru No. 10 and Way Too Early Playoff Projections

From the same episode (🎧: Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts) of The Main Event: Oregon's 5A basketball podcast with sports reporter Brian Rathbone, where we talked about the top ten 5A players, here are rankings 6 through 10. Rathbone and I compiled our lists separately, and we had zero matches outside of the top five.

Readers will have to listen to the episode to find out Rathbone's picks, but here are mine for the remaining top ten 5A players, including way-too-early playoff projections for their high school teams:

6 [player_tooltip player_id='832069' first='Hazel' last='Pepperling'] | Lebanon

5-11 PF | 2027 | FBC Oregon Valley Tropics

βœ… Strong frame, big presence inside

βœ… Efficient around the rim, finishes off the bounce

βœ… Can step out and drain the three

βœ… Defends inside and out

β€’ 2025 Mid-Willamette Conference First Team

β€’ Placed 7th in 17U Pool A in the End of the Trail circuit with FBC Oregon Valley Tropics.

Lebanon 5-foot-11 junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='832069' first='Hazel' last='Pepperling'] is the most undervalued and under-recruited 5A player in the state. She's a committed competitor with a high ceiling. She has good size and a strong frame. She's automatic around the rim, she can drive on the bounce from the perimeter, and she can step out to drain the three. Pepperling has great hands and surprisingly quick feet on both ends. The Warriors also return 5-foot-10 guard Peyton Vorderstrasse, who recently earned an offer from Lewis & Clark. Pepperling's younger sister [player_tooltip player_id='1264980' first='Harper' last='Pepperling'] is a tall and tough freshman who should be in the mix. Lebanon placed 6th in the Mid-Willamette Conference and lost to Crater in the first round of the playoffs last season. They could improve on those results this year.

7 [player_tooltip player_id='832596' first='Darissa' last='Romero-Ah Sam'] | Springfield

5-6 PG | 2026 | TruGame Select NW | Uncommitted

βœ… Great handles and speed

βœ… Creative downhill, drive & dish

βœ… Excellent defender

βœ… Can hit from deep

β€’ 2025 Midwestern Conference Co-Defender of the Year, First Team honors

β€’ 2025 5A All-State Second Team

β€’ 2025 5A State Tournament leader in assists

Springfield 5-foot-6 senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='832596' first='Darissa' last='Romero-Ah Sam'] is a speedy player with great handles and vision. She is quick to get downhill and dish, has a nice shot from three, and her guard defense is elite. The Millers lost to South Albany in the quarterfinals at the state tournament last season. While the team graduated Ikunaday Filipe, they added her freshman sister [player_tooltip player_id='1264922' first='Nuari' last='Filipe'], who could make an impact from the start. In addition to Romero-Ah Sam, the team returns two other starters and upperclassmen, [player_tooltip player_id='925988' first='Sailor' last='Hall'] and Iyahna Woodard. Hall can shoot the lights out from three, and Woodard is a strong, physical presence in the paint on both ends. Returning sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='1191111' first='Lia' last='Jones'] is a developing playmaker and should see more minutes and more touches. Springfield is another well-rounded team that could advance past the quarterfinals in the state tournament this season.

8 [player_tooltip player_id='842741' first='Mylaena' last='Norton'] | Redmond

5-6 PG | 2026 | [program_tooltip program_id='713147' first='Oregon' last='Elite'] | Uncommitted

βœ… Great vision, handles, passing

βœ… Shot creator

βœ… Can finish downhill or dish

β€’ Intermountain Conference Player of the Year

β€’ 5A All-State Second Team

β€’ Averaged 9.7 points, shot 31% from three, and got to the line at the state tournament

Redmond 5-foot-6 senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='842741' first='Mylaena' last='Norton'] is the top scorer for her high school team. Everything runs through her. Redmond defeated Summit at the final buzzer in a quarterfinal game at the state tournament last year. The Panthers graduated three starters, Aspen Morris, Azlynn Ure, and Dylan Cheney. They return solid returning starters Norton and junior [player_tooltip player_id='839066' first='Freya' last='Snow'], who made big plays inside on both ends. Also returning is sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1192568' first='Bergen' last='Porter'], who gave the Panthers productive minutes off the bench in scoring and rebounding. Porter should move from a sixth-woman to a starter. Added to the roster is freshman point guard Kodee Kimble, who could make for a dynamic backcourt duo with Nortonβ€”both are ball-handlers who can shoot. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1264948' first='Ainsley' last='Ure'] is a small guard who could also be in the mix to give the Panthers some depth. Redmond should be a top-five team this year and will have to put in the work again to advance past the quarterfinals.

9 [player_tooltip player_id='839059' first='Karlee' last='Martirano'] | Silverton

5-9 SG | 2027 | NW Select

βœ… Efficient three-level scorer, two-way competitor

βœ… Great pace and game IQ

βœ… Nice midrange and perimeter shooting

βœ… Strong finisher at the rim off the bounce

β€’ Mid-Willamette Conference Second Team

Silverton 5-foot-9 junior shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='839059' first='Karlee' last='Martirano'] could have a breakout year under Coach Alyssa Ogle. The transfer should touch the ball more and get more looks than she did at West Albany. The Silver Foxes defeated the Bulldogs in the quarterfinals at the state tournament last season. Silverton graduated three starters Hadley Craig, Grace Hayashida, and Brooklynn Pfeifer. They return solid starters [player_tooltip player_id='991259' first='Allie' last='Mansur'] and [player_tooltip player_id='839068' first='Marley' last='Wertz']. Mansur is a great pass-first point guard who pushes the pace and gets her team into its offense. Wertz is aggressive on both ends and attacks the basket with success from the wing. Martirano and incoming freshman shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='1264968' first='Chloe' last='Kuschnick'] will add perimeter scoring for Silverton. With a continued focus on excellent team defense, the Silver Foxes should be back to the state tournament this year.

10 [player_tooltip player_id='1264922' first='Nuari' last='Filipe'] | Springfield

6-0 SG | 2029 | Oregon Top Prospects

βœ… Efficient and dynamic three-level scorer

βœ… Rebounds on both ends

βœ… Smooth shot creator off the bounce

β€’ Offer from UNLV in June

Springfield 6-foot freshman shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='1264922' first='Nuari' last='Filipe'] is the only class of 2029 player to make the 5A top-ten list. She should make an impact for the Millers from the start of the season. Over the summer, Filipe ran with FBC Oregon on a 14U team that played against some of the top 15U teams in the nation. She led her club team in scoring and rebounds, and was a key player in FBC Oregon's win over eventual 15U Division Power 24 national champion Jason Kidd Select. (FBC Oregon recently rebranded to Oregon Top Prospects, a grassroots program slated to compete in the New Balance circuit next year). Filipe joins a strong Springfield squad and should play on the Linfield stage in her freshman season.
