Last weekend, in Appleton, we had our third PGH Freshman Showcase. I enjoy seeing the new faces of high school basketball before the season, and plenty of players at the event will make their mark on the high school season this winter. Today, we're discussing all the players from Team Four of the 5v5 portion of the event and highlighting what they brought to the floor. We'll keep this up until we wrap up all ten 5v5 teams that played at the Freshman Showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id='874404' first='Ava' last='Cumicek']

The Notre Dame guard is a talented shooter who knocked down most of her shots when she was left open. She was also dynamic with the ball in her hands and attacked the basket off the dribble. I loved the way she approached the game as a lead guard and her ability to generate open looks for her teammates on the offensive end of the floor. She has a chance to be an impactful performer this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1264437' first='Kinley' last='Peterson']

Peterson handled the ball well under pressure and was a player who could create numerical advantages due to her ability to control the ball effectively under pressure. She also did a solid job of moving the ball on the offensive end of the floor and getting her teammates involved in the offense. She was also willing to dig in and rebound the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='900146' first='Nyrie' last='Kuranda']

The first thing I noticed about Kuranda was that she was a vocal player on the defensive end of the floor. I liked how engaged she was on the defensive end of the floor, whether she was guarding on or off the ball. I thought she demonstrated a lot of leadership qualities when she was on the floor, and if she brings that to the high school level, she will be a valuable asset to any program she plays for.

[player_tooltip player_id='1241201' first='Ayala' last='Hilson']

Wilson did an excellent job of rebounding the ball in traffic. She was also a player who could rebound the ball and push the ball up the floor in transition. The other thing she did that I appreciated was making progressive passes in transition. She kept her head up with the ball in her hands and was capable of catching defenses off-guard when they didn't keep track of everyone in transition. I thought she did a solid job making plays for a team where she didn't have the ball as much as she could've.
