Karlgaard has emerged as a key piece for the top [program_tooltip program_id='713021' first='West' last='Central United'] 2029 group after working her way up from the second team where she played in 2024. Tough, scrappy, and competitive, she combines quickness and vision with improved shooting mechanics and a high degree of confidence. Sophia attacks the rim, dishes effectively, and defends relentlessly. She rebounds her position well, hustles for loose balls, and makes life hard for opposing guards. Sophia had an outstanding day on Sunday.

Moore used her length well on defense, blocking shots and disrupting passing lanes. Physically still developing, she projects to add height and strength, making her long-term ceiling intriguing. A rebounding machine, Moore battles inside while also hitting mid-range jumpers and finishing with either hand in the post. Her shot-blocking stood out, highlighted by an impressive swat of another 6-footer. Maple Grove graduated a ton of players this spring. Moore will most likely do her work on JV this winter.

Bailey is a confident guard who wants the ball in her hands. She plays with poise, keeps her eyes up, and moves the ball effectively. Strongly built, she delivered several impressive long passes in transition while maintaining control. Bailey showed determination and leadership when she was at the point, steadying her team and proving she's comfortable taking charge in key moments.

Grace is a really strong shooter, an asset she demonstrated early in the proceedings on Sunday with a smooth corner three. She also attacked the rim, and showed off her improved defense and rebounding. After varsity minutes as an 8th grader, she looks poised for a breakout season. We're told Grace is a real gym rat, the kind of player who wants to get better and is doing the work to accomplish that goal. Her shooting ability, and intensity make her an emerging player to watch.

Afzal showed some nerves early but grew more comfortable as the day went on. She clearly likes to shoot and isn't afraid to pull the trigger when open. In Wayzata's incredibly deep program, carving a varsity role will be difficult for Afzal, but her willingness to compete at the Freshman Showcase is a positive sign that she's working to get better. With more work on fundamentals and experience in pressure situations, Eva could climb the ladder.
