On Saturday, September 13th, I had the opportunity to attend the StoneCold Shooting Fall Showcase, hosted by Lawrence Central Associate Head Coach, Bryce Stone. The showcase featured some of the top young talent from Central and Southern Indiana, highlighting players from the Classes of 2029, 2030, and 2031. The event provided a competitive environment where athletes were able to display their skills through a variety of drills and game situations. Participants rotated through stations that emphasized fundamentals such as shooting, the three-man weave, and the five-man weave, before moving into live competition. The showcase concluded with spirited 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 sessions, allowing players to demonstrate their ability to apply individual skills within a team setting. Overall, the StoneCold Shooting Fall Showcase offered a valuable platform for developing players to gain exposure, compete against high-level peers, and continue their growth as athletes. In the following sections, we will highlight several guards and wings who stood out during the event.

[player_tooltip player_id='1112872' first='Katelyn' last='Tofani'] is a promising young guard who already demonstrates a polished and versatile skill set for her age. Her biggest strength is her shooting ability. Tofani consistently knocks down shots with smooth mechanics and confidence, and she extends her range well beyond the three-point line. Her form remains steady even under pressure, which makes her a reliable perimeter threat. She has a quick first step that allows her to beat defenders off the dribble. In “Queen of the Court,” she showed the ability to read defenders effectively, attacking closeouts and creating her own shot off the bounce. She also has comfort pulling up for mid-range jumpers, adding another dimension to her scoring. One of her most impressive traits is her vocal leadership and presence on the floor. For an eighth grader, her maturity and willingness to organize teammates stand out as qualities that will help her transition seamlessly to high school basketball. With another year of growth before joining Hamilton Southeastern, Tofani is on track to make an immediate impact at the varsity level. Her shooting, basketball IQ, and leadership suggest she could become a key piece for the Royals early in her career.

Camille Hurt impressed with her all-around performance, showcasing her ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. She is a creative and shifty guard who thrives at getting to the rim while also showing the toughness to rebound effectively for her size. With strong ball-handling skills, Hurt keeps defenders off balance and creates opportunities for herself and her teammates. In the 5-on-5 session, she consistently made winning plays—whether running the floor to get into scoring position, knocking down shots in rhythm, or attacking closeouts with an aggressive first step. Her versatility and energy make her a difficult matchup. What stood out most is how polished she looks for her age. Her shiftiness, pace, and decision-making draw comparisons to [player_tooltip player_id='1038866' first='Kalea' last='Bentley'], showing flashes of similar creativity and control. As Hurt enters her freshman year at Lawrence North, she projects as a great fit within their offense. With her ability to score, handle, and adapt to different situations, she's poised to make an immediate impact and develop into a key contributor early in her high school career.

[player_tooltip player_id='1317597' first='Breya' last='Stone'] is developing into a promising young guard with an athletic skill set and strong upside. At the showcase, she displayed her ability to attack the basket with authority, particularly with her strong right hand. She consistently looked comfortable getting downhill and finishing through traffic. In the 5-on-5 session, Stone expanded her impact by knocking down shots from the perimeter and making smart reads in transition. Her ability to combine scoring with decision-making shows a foundation that will only continue to grow as she develops. Part of a talented 2030 class, Stone will join Lawrence Central next year, where she projects to be a good contributor. With her athleticism, finishing ability, and emerging perimeter game, she has the tools to become a dynamic guard at the high school level.

Payton Brdonik emerged as one of the standout shooters at the showcase. She displayed a smooth, consistent shooting stroke and excelled at finding ways to get herself open. Whether coming off down screens, using ball screens, or relocating in the half court, Brdonik showed great instincts for getting into shooting position and capitalizing on opportunities. Beyond her scoring, she separated herself with her communication and energy. Brdonik was one of the few players who consistently talked on both ends of the floor, showing leadership qualities that elevate her presence on the court. Her hustle stood out as well, diving for loose balls and playing with a high motor throughout the event. Overall, Brdonik combined effort, energy, and shooting efficiency to make a strong impression. With her ability to stretch the floor, communicate, and compete, she projects as a valuable piece to any team's rotation.

Aubrey Scott stood out with her shooting ability, especially during drills where she consistently knocked down shots with confidence. What sets her apart from other guards in her class, however, is her willingness to do the little things—diving for loose balls, defending with intensity, and bringing effort on every possession. She also showed strong basketball IQ, particularly in how she reads defenses coming off ball screens, making the right decision to score or keep the offense flowing. Her combination of skill, toughness, and defensive effort makes her a well-rounded guard with plenty of upside. As she enters her freshman year at Hamilton Southeastern, Scott has the potential to grow into one of the program's top guards in the coming years. With her blend of shooting, defensive ability, and competitive motor, she is well-positioned to make an early impact and develop into a key contributor for the Royals.

[player_tooltip player_id='1317612' first='Blakely' last='Canada'] impressed at the showcase with her ability to score and defend, showing the versatility of a developing two-way guard. Offensively, she displayed a smooth shooting stroke and the ability to score at all three levels—whether knocking down perimeter shots, pulling up in the mid-range, or attacking the rim. What separates Canada is her size as a taller guard, which allows her to impact the game defensively. She used her length and positioning to contest shots and disrupt opposing guards, while also showing the ability to guard multiple positions. That defensive versatility, paired with her offensive skill set, makes her a well-rounded prospect with a high ceiling. With one more year before entering high school, Canada is continuing to form herself into a complete player. She has the potential to emerge as one of Westfield's top guards in the coming years and a key contributor early in her high school career.
