Next month is when high school basketball play resumes for real across South Carolina and the rest of the country.

It still does not feel like that long ago that the month was March – and a grand total of six teams departed from the Florence Center bringing championship hardware back to their respective schools.

After several months of travel and showcase ball, the journey will soon commence once again next month.

We began our comprehensive region-by-region previews with a look at Region 1-A. Without further ado, we remain in the Upper State by turning our attention to the teams that comprise Region 2-A.

Lee Central

(2024-25 Record: 22-5, 12-0)

Lee Central was one of the many programs affected by realignment last season as the Stallions moved down from the 2A ranks to 1A.

It was a move that proved very fruitful for the program as Lee Central claimed last year's 1A Upper State championship after running the table through region play.

Coach Patrice Holmes' team did graduate a large number of seniors from last year's Stallions version meaning getting back to that same point could be a difficult task. Prior to last season, the last time there was a 20-win campaign at Lee Central was 2006-07 – when the Stallions won one of their five state championships that year.

Key Players:

One name that is returning for Lee Central is [player_tooltip player_id='1177258' first='Serenity' last='Williams']. She also partakes in volleyball alongside her basketball achievements. Williams averaged 11.1 points and 3.4 steals in the 27 games she played for the Stallions last season.

Williams may play in two sports, but [player_tooltip player_id='370269' first='Mykeriyah' last='Holmes']' athletic plate is even fuller as she partakes in three – basketball, volleyball and track. Holmes competed in 24 games last season with the Stallions, averaging 8.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest.

C.A. Johnson

(2024-25 Record: 15-10, 10-2)

It was not that long ago when C.A. Johnson encountered back-to-back seasons where it went winless.

Then came the 2023-24 season where the Hornets were in the win column on eight occasions followed by last season where C.A. Johnson won 15 games and finished second in its region. Both of those region defeats were – as expected – by way of Lee Central.

The 2015-16 season was the last time C.A. Johnson concluded a season with 15 victories. The Hornets earned a state tournament bid which saw a blowout victory over Ware Shoals before the team's season ended in the second round at the hands of Williston-Elko.

Key Players:

C.A. Johnson did graduate one of its star players from last season. Two key pieces are returning for their senior campaigns. One of them is Jena Morales. She is listed at 5-foot-3 and primarily operates at the two.

The other is Xalesa Dwyer who operates more at the point. Standing at 5-foot-2, Dwyer is a multi-sport athlete who also competes in volleyball alongside what she gets accomplished on the basketball court.

Great Falls

(2024-25 Record: 9-9, 6-6)

Great Falls is another school that has, overall, been overlooked in the Palmetto State's women's basketball landscape.

After all, it has been a while since we have seen a winning season for the Red Devils – 2007-08 to be exact. There are more than enough programs across the state that would scoff at the idea of nine victories equaling a successful season – Great Falls is not one of them.

The Red Devils did earn a first-round tournament berth even though its season – similar to C.A. Johnson's – came to an end at the hands of Williston-Elko. Building on last season's success is the plan for Great Falls especially given the team only graduated one senior from 2024-25.

McBee

(2024-25 Record: 5-9, 4-5)

For the last three seasons prior to last year, McBee has enjoyed the benefit of double-digit winning seasons.

A five-win campaign for 2024-25 was an unexpected drop off but there is all the reason why this year's Panthers should reach that double-digit winning plateau once again. Four of those five victories occurred against region opponents.

McBee qualified for last year's 1A state tournament but were eliminated from the first round by North which eventually reached the Upper State championship game. The Panthers know based on what they did the previous three seasons that they can not only get back over .500 but also make a deeper run in tournament play.

Key Players:

In order to get in the win column against the Panthers, one has to do something about their star frontcourt force in [player_tooltip player_id='562109' first='Naomi' last='House']. She is a consistent double-double threat and has offers from Voorhees, Morris College and USC-Salkehatchie.

Lewisville

(2024-25 Record: 7-11, 5-6)

Lewisville's 2024-25 season was a far distance from the 17-4 record the Lions posted in 2023-24.

One can say that the Lions' season last year was a classic tale of two seasons. Lewisville had a somewhat rough go of things with its non-region schedule but it was its success against region foes that earned it a berth in the tournament.

Lewisville did earn a victory in the first round of the tournament against what was a surging Dixie team at the time only to be ousted in the second round by Hunter-Kinard-Tyler. The Lions may not have been what they were two seasons ago but they proved they can be a tough out.

Governor's School For Science and Math

Governor's School for Science & Math finished 1-9 last season with its lone win occurring against Lamar.

Lamar

Lamar finished 1-19 last season. Its lone victory was a region win over Governor's School For Science and Math.
