Scrimmage Season: Early Favorites In Prep Girls Hoops

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Basketball season is right around the corner and Ruston High School hosted an Officials Clinic and Team Scrimmage. The games consisted of two 20 minute halves allowing the girls to get plenty of on court time for preparation and some PrepHoops evaluation. It is early, but some of the players already look like they are in mid-season form. Hunter will play college basketball and her poise and confidence are clear on the court. She is a firm ball handler and trusted shot maker, but most of all you can just see that she is a leader. She is a mature player with all of the tools that coaches covet at the next level and her future is bright. I dare say what is her strength because every time I watch her play, she shows something else. I did not consider her a ball handler, but while missing a key piece she showed that she has worked on her ball handling skills and moved the ball from one end of the court with ease. She also showed that she has worked on her three point shot as she knocked down some of those today as well. The mark of greatness is growth and Weeks is growing. She looks taller than her listed height. She handles the ball like a guard, but works in the lane like a post. She is a high level rebounder and elite finisher. And to top it all she is a competitor. Wright wants the smoke. She is ALWAYS in the action. If you can keep her from getting down hill, she is a willing passer that can kill you on the offensive boards. There is a buzz around Ruston, and Harrison will be one to watch because of her size, athleticism and developing skill. She is a tough defender and strong rebounder, but her ability to score around the rim is something that will be important this season. She is a floor general that serves her team mates first, but if the ball comes back to her she will knock down the shot. Spann will share point guard duties this season due to her ability to direct a team, but also her knock down shooting. Today she was able to settle in and knock down some shots and let everyone know that she is ready to grow her name in Ruston. She is already a starter as a Sophomore and her name is going to be one that you hear in coaching circles around the state. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The games will start soon and everyone has their thoughts about who will be the best in the state.
