Now that the previews for Classes 1A and 2A are complete, it's time to turn to Class 3A. These should come almost two to a day over the next week, because the season is two weeks underway, and I wanted to continue offering you a glimpse at what the 2025-26 season could hold with a preview of each of the state's 64 Sectionals once again. During the Spring of 2024, the IHSAA moved to a traditional enrollment-based format, realigning all classes with hard enrollment cutoff lines per class instead of taking nearly 400 schools and simply dividing them into four equal classes. With that said, each class has been more competitive, but the bigger classes have fewer teams than the smaller classes. This article serves as one of 64 previewing each Sectional in the state. In this specific article, I will take a look at Class 3A, Sectional #27. Below is a look at the teams in that Sectional, along with some general comments and analysis.
(SAG = Final 2024-2025 Multiclass Sagarin Rating (398 teams); SOS = Final 2024-2025 Strength of Schedule)

Northview was the Sectional Champion last season, and coming off of two consecutive 20-win seasons, they are definitely going to be in the mix once again. Despite graduating their top scorer, they return much of their remaining production. 5-9 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='834965' first='Carlee' last='Schrader'] (13.6p, 5.9r, 2.4a, 3.0s) is a do-everything wing. She can shoot/score the ball as a '2', she can play a point forward type of role in transition, plus she can initiate the offense, and she can sit down and defend three positions. 5-4 Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='486472' first='Reagin' last='White'] (8.3p, 3.8r, 4.1a, 2.1s) is a feisty little guard. She can fill it up from outside or create offense for teammates. After seeing quality minutes as a rookie, 5-7 Sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='992356' first='Kambry' last='Shoults'] (4.0p, 3.2r, 1.3s) should step into a much bigger role this season and could become a double-digit scoring threat. 5-8 Junior wing Tori DeHart (2.6p) and 5-5 Senior guard Rekell Terrell (1.3p, 3.5r, 2.7s) also look to be more impactful for the Lady Knights this season. They will definitely miss some size inside, but if Northview is set to repeat, you better believe it will be thanks to Schrader and White leading the way.

They might not enjoy it this time next year, but as of today, the Edgewood Mustangs have 10 Seniors who saw action a season ago and are eligible to return. With that kind of experience, you would think they will be around for much/all of Sectional week. 5-11 Senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='832680' first='Macey' last='Crider'] (13.2p, 7.9r, 1.3a, 1.6s) leads the way. After dealing with injuries early in her career, she had a nice Junior year, and she should be even more productive in her final season. She is tough-nosed, strong, and can play with finesse outside or physicality inside. Senior twins Madison Bland (11.9p, 3.7r, 5.3a, 4.6s), a 5-3 point guard, and Allison Bland (10.5p, 4.7r, 3.0a, 3.0s), a 5-2 guard, complement each other well. They are quick, fast, and feisty, they can create offense or make open shots, and they are pests defensively. Those two plus Crider will do a majority of the scoring for the Mustangs. 5-10 Senior forward Ava LaRoche (5.1p, 3.7r, 1.1a), 5-6 Senior wing Addison Yearby (4.3p, 2.2r, 1.2a, 1.0s), 5-6 Senior guard Kyleigh Murphy (3.2p, 2.7r), and 5-11 Senior front-liner Kaitlyn Wright (1.4p) are the next most experienced veteran options for Edgewood. With such an experienced group, if they can adjust some of last year's mistakes and play a little cleaner, they can push toward 20 wins this year.

Speedway is another team with exceptional depth. While they graduated a pair of ladies, they return eight others who played in at least 15 games last season, including their top three scorers, plus they add a Freshman who could stand out immediately. 5-11 Sophomore wing [player_tooltip player_id='884402' first='Madelynn' last='Matelic'] (12.9p, 5.9r, 1.4a, 3.2s) had flashes of brilliance as a rookie, so I'd look for her to have an even more consistent and productive second year for the Sparkplugs. 5-8 Senior shooter [player_tooltip player_id='492318' first='Macy' last='DeLisle'] (11.1p, 3.6r, 2.3a, 3.6s) is a dangerous threat from the perimeter. She has a quick release, she plays with toughness, but she might also have to take on more ball-handling responsibilities this season. 6-1 Senior post Hayli Clampitt (9.2p, 5.5r, 1.5s) has flown under the radar a bit because she is a talented multisport kid, but she could have a nice season for the Sparkplugs as she patrols the paint. 6-0 Junior front-liner Addison Haberman-Smith (3.6p, 3.7r) and 6-1 Sophomore post Shavaun Champion (1.6p, 2.5r) are two more sizeable prospects who can definitely help Clampitt defend the interior. 5-5 Junior guard Callie Pinkley (1.3p) has a bit of experience around the perimeter, so look for her to earn more minutes this year. From there, I would also anticipate a Freshman getting a look early and often. Katie Taylor is a 5-8 wing guard who can shoot/score, attack, and defend. If anything, the Sparkplugs will need to address their point guard position, but they have good size, skill, and the potential to challenge anyone in Sectional #27.

Additional Players to Keep an Eye on: Cascade: 5-9 Senior forward Macey Pugh (12.3p, 8.2r, 2.5s), 5-7 Sophomore guard Addy Thompson (3.1p, 3.8r, 1.2a, 1.6s), and 5-7 Sophomore guard Taylor Gibbs (2.5p, 1.8r, 1.3s); George Washington: 5-3 Junior guard Serenity Anderson and 5-5 Sophomore guard Na'Riya Holder; Owen Valley: 5-8 Sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='1144654' first='Aubrey' last='Sparks'] (20.7p, 9.1r, 1.3a, 2.1s), 5-4 Junior guard Hannah Bixler (10.4p, 2.8r, 1.3a, 1.3s), and 5-5 Freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='1264687' first='Kendall' last='Freeman']
