Junior Varsity Standouts at Benson High School Tryouts

This past week Benson hosted basketball tryouts for one of the states most talented teams. Both Varsity and JV competed for spots on the roster together. Competition was fierce and the bar was set high. Tryouts included demonstrating various skill drills and even a timed mile on the track. Everyone worked really hard and put their hearts on the line. Now let's meet some of the players that stood out and made the junior varsity team.    Cadence Howard is a freshman combo guard for Benson High School. Cadence came into tryouts eager to compete and earn a spot on the team. Right away, she stood out for her athletic ability and confidence on the court. She has a strong work ethic and is quick. She was able to keep up with the varsity players on most drills and had a respectable mile time amongst her peers. Cadence can handle the ball well. She can shoot the ball well and even had an impressive three point bucket during transition play. She is very coachable and I'm confident she will continue to thrive for Benson.     Zara Pahl Armsbury is an incoming freshman at Benson High School. With her tall 6'0 height and wide wingspan, she immediately grabbed the attention of the coaches and athletes in the gym. From the jump, Zara got to work right away in tryouts. She is quick for her size and can shoot the ball well. Easily the tallest on the junior varsity team, Zara was grabbing rebounds with ease over her teammates. Her IQ on the court is strong and she's eager to get better. She also showed her teammates encouragement throughout the week. It will be exciting to see how Zara does this season for Benson.     Amillia Smith is a freshman combo guard for Benson High School. She is very fast and tenacious on defense. She isn't afraid to face guard her opponents and she certainly can keep up with everyone in the gym in a foot race. In some drills she was ahead of everyone. Amillia is an encouraging teammate and always has a smile on her face. She walks into the gym with a smile and cheers her teammates on any chance she gets. She's eager to learn and eager to get better. She may be small but she has the heart of a lioness. Keep pushing yourself and keep up the good work “Milli”.     Vivienne McDonald is a junior combo guard for Benson High School. She is a varsity swing player and is coming off of a knee injury, but making great strides. Vivienne possesses leadership qualities and has been there for her team all summer and fall even though she was out with an injury. Eager to come back strong, Viv joins in any drill she can and is always ready to learn. She has good height and is very strong out on the floor. She's a great shooter and can get after rebounds with her size and power. She will be a big help to the junior varsity team for Benson when she swings during game play.     Amelia Chhum is a sophomore combo guard out of Benson High School. She is a hard working player and quick out on the court. She isn't afraid to cheer loud for her teammates and lift others up when they are down.   Her speed on the floor helps her to be a good defender. Her shooting ability has improved since last season and she's been working hard on her ball handling. Amelia likes to have fun with her teammates and she's known for her upbeat personality when competing. She's very excited for this next season with Benson.
