The first week of the high school season is in the books, and yesterday I posted the first week of polls in all five divisions across Wisconsin. Today, we'll continue to highlight a few of the standouts of the opening week of the 2025-26 season and talk about what they bring to the floor. There are plenty of players who have had excellent performances this past week, but we'll look at four players in particular.

The Northwestern forward missed most of last season due to a lingering injury, and if I'm not mistaken, she also missed a significant chunk of the AAU season, if she played at all last summer. However, Kunert looked as comfortable and fluid as she ever has at the high school level. Kunert has always been a double-double threat, but if what she showed in the first week is real, she should be an impressive player in Maple. She handled the ball well, knocked down a perimeter jumper, and was active on the glass on both ends of the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='874379' first='Aubree' last='Fischer']

Saying Fischer is the ultimate glue player feels like it sells what she does a little short, but it's a true statement. The De Pere native has the ability to fit into any situation she's in and find ways to elevate the ceiling of her team. She is a talented defender who can make plays on the ball and force live-ball turnovers. No matter who is on her team or what her numbers look like at the end of games, her coaches will always have a tou

[player_tooltip player_id='751236' first='Alexis' last='Shelsta']

The Hartford guard is a player who could have a breakout campaign this winter. Shelsta is a player who has played a secondary role with a ridiculous amount of talent on Hartford's roster the last few seasons. However, she was their second-leading scorer a season ago, and she had an excellent end to her AAU season last summer. She has always been a confident player, and her teammates clearly trust her to make things happen offensively.

Liv Neumueller

The Eau Claire native shot the ball well in her team's first road game of the season at Marshfield. Neumueller is a confident player who stood out to me when I watched her play a few times over the summer. The North guard is stepping into a program that lost a productive senior last spring, and will be a player they can rely on to make things happen offensively. She'll get thrown in the deep end once Big Rivers Conference play kicks off, but it'll allow her to figure out what works at the high school level and what doesn't.
