The countdown to the start of the 2025-26 high school girls basketball season across South Carolina and the nation has reached the home stretch.

Soon, another journey will commence for every team in the state to experience what teams like Walhalla did last season among the 3A field – state championship euphoria.

Over the last several weeks, Prep Girls Hoops has released in-depth, comprehensive region-by-region previews as tip-off of the season gets closer and closer.

After looking at the first two 3A regions, our region-by-region journey across the Palmetto State continues by looking at the final Upper State region in 3A – Region 3-AAA.

Chapman

(2024-25 Record: 19-10, 10-0)

The run of seasons that Chapman has put together with a double-digit win output continued last season. The 2024-25 campaign was the seventh consecutive season that the Panthers have won at least 10 games.

What made last season unique for Chapman is how it ran the table in its region. The Panthers won its first two 3A state tournament games last season against Palmetto and Pendleton. Chapman's season ended by way of a close defeat to St. Joseph's Catholic.

A couple of star seniors did graduate from coach Wes Hatchette's team last season – including two of the three team captains.

Key Players:

[player_tooltip player_id='659988' first='Annastyn' last='Smith'] is beginning her junior season at Chapman and is coming off a season where she played in 25 games in 2024-25 for the Panthers. Smith was second on the team in scoring averaging 11.2 points per game in addition to 4.4 rebounds and two steals per contest.

One more trek through the high school ranks awaits for [player_tooltip player_id='490794' first='Kara' last='Twitty']. She has played at the varsity level since she was in the eighth grade and is a dual-sport athlete who also plays volleyball. Twitty averaged 8.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 28 games.

Chapman's senior class also includes [player_tooltip player_id='387011' first='Elliot' last='Miller'] who is one of the key names in the backcourt for the Panthers. Miller is also a two-sport athlete who plays soccer in addition to her hoops achievements.

One of the names that Panthers opponents have to be on the lookout for the frontcourt is [player_tooltip player_id='1068042' first='Kamryn' last='Thompkins'] who is beginning her junior season at Chapman. Thompkins stands at 6-foot-2.

Woodruff

(2024-25 Record: 21-6, 8-2)

When realignment occurred, Woodruff remained in the 3A ranks but the Wolverines moved from Region 4-AAA to Region 3-AAA.

During that last season in Region 4-AAA, Woodruff's biggest problem was Clinton. This past season, the Wolverines' biggest issue was Chapman – the team responsible for both of Woodruff's region losses.

The Wolverines still made the 3A state tournament with its stellar record and won a first-round game over Crescent before being on the receiving end of a 20-point second-round defeat to Powdersville. The 2024-25 version of Woodruff graduated three seniors – including its star shooting guard who is now in the collegiate ranks at Columbia International.

Key Players:

One more season in the burgundy and gold of Woodruff awaits for [player_tooltip player_id='496240' first='Jensyn' last='Turner'] – a multi-sport athlete and SC Sixers product who has also played volleyball in addition to what she gets accomplished on the basketball court. Turner has played at the varsity level since she was in the seventh grade and averaged 12 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.6 steals per game.

Another dual volleyball-basketball standout that will be honored when Woodruff has its Senior Day is Jordan Robinson. She is listed at 5-foot-4. Robinson averaged 9.2 points, three rebounds and 2.6 steals a contest last season.

The Wolverines' graduating class also includes Jasmine McKnight who stands at 5-foot-6 and primarily operates as a three forward. Robinson played in all 27 games last season and was one of Woodruff's leading rebounders, averaging 6.3 boards a game.

Broome

(2024-25 Record: 15-12, 6-4)

The Centurions' 15-win campaign from last season took us back to the 2013-14 season when Broome put together a 19-win season.

Inauspiciously for the Centurions, its playoff fortunes encountered the same fate as that team from 2013-14 – a first-round playoff exit. It was A.C. Flora back then and Southside Christian last season.

Those four region losses occurred against the two teams that finished ahead of Broome in the standings – Chapman and Woodruff. A goal for this year's Centurions has to be to claim region victories over the Panthers or Wolverines – or both. Broome did graduate six seniors from last season's team.

Key Players:

Broome is bringing back [player_tooltip player_id='847519' first='Kourtney' last='Wofford'] for her junior season. She maintains a busy athletic schedule especially during the Fall semester between her basketball and volleyball work. Wofford was the Centurions' leading scorer from last season, averaging 13 points, 5.7 steals, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

Also returning for Broome is Diamond Martin who stands at 5-foot-8 and primarily operates in the Centurions' frontcourt. She too also plays volleyball. Martin played in 25 games last season and posted averages of 8.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks per matchup.

Union County

(2024-25 Record: 10-16, 4-7)

If the phrase “exceeding expectations” were to be found in the dictionary, a photo of last season's Union County team would likely appear.

After all, coach Ericka Hammett's Yellowjackets were coming off a dreadful time in 2023-24 where they only won two games – both non-region contests against Newberry and SCISA combatant Spartanburg Christian. The 10 victories Union County mustered last season caught much of the state off guard.

The Yellowjackets earned a berth to the 2A state tournament – it was 2021-22 when that last happened for the team. Union County suffered a blowout defeat at the hands of West-Oak but its surprising turnaround already denoted a successful season at the Yellowjackets' hive.

Key Players:

Union County may have graduated four seniors but one name returning for her junior season is Gabby Eison. The Yellowjackets' last victory of the season occurred against Mountain View Prep in a 36-34 decision. Eison scored 17 points in that contest.

Another name to watch out for with Union County is [player_tooltip player_id='1232016' first='Alayna' last='Chick'] who is beginning her sophomore season in Union County black and gold. Chick scored eight in that game against Mountain View Prep, seven in the loss to West-Oak and 22 in a matchup against Chapman in early February.

Anna Grace Lee is returning for her sophomore season with Union County. Lee is a multi-sport athlete as she thrives as a softball standout alongside her basketball achievements. She had seven in that win over Mountain View Prep.

Mountain View Prep

(2024-25 Record: 4-22, 3-8)

One has to crawl before it can walk. That was certainly the mantra for the Stars – one of the newest programs in the state.

Mountain View Prep began the 2024-25 season by dropping its first seven games for earning its first victory on Dec. 21. A reversion to the mean ensued for the Stars until late January when the team picked up victories over Greer Middle College and Union County.

Breanna Hines, who is most known by fans of Byrnes, was hired as the first head coach in Mountain View Prep's history. The team did qualify for the 3A state tournament but were ousted in the first round by Powdersville.

Key Players:

Avery Caldwell is one of the brightest young names in the state. She is a two-sport athlete who also plays softball in addition to basketball. Caldwell is laying the foundation for Mountain View Prep girls basketball. She played in 26 games last season averaging eight points, 4.7 rebounds and three steals per contest.

[player_tooltip player_id='1213549' first='Celeste' last='Wilder'] was part of last year's Stars team as a sophomore and competed in 24 games in 2024-25. Wilder posted averages of seven points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest. She stands at 5-foot-6.

[player_tooltip player_id='902208' first='Trinity' last='Owens'] is part of Mountain View Prep's graduating class this season. As someone who primarily operates in the frontcourt, Owens was one of the Stars' leading rebounders last season averaging four per game.

One Avery may garner many of the headlines surrounding Mountain View Prep but another one – Avery Richards – was the Stars' leading rebounder from last season averaging 5.8 per game. Richards plays volleyball in addition to basketball.

Speaking of two-sport athletes, the same applies to Bailey Judd who is beginning her sophomore season with the Stars. She also plays softball during the spring once the basketball season concludes.

Greer Middle College

(2024-25 Record: 3-21, 0-10)

The most successful season Greer Middle College has had in its relatively young history took place in 2014-15.

During that season, the Blazers finished with a 12-8 record and finished with a 7-7 showing in its region. Greer Middle College competed in the 1A classification at the time.

This past season, the Blazers were reclassified from 2A to 3A and had a rough go of things. Two of the three victories Greer Middle College earned last season occurred against GREEN Upstate. The other was in late November at 1A Whitmire in a 55-20 decision. The Blazers last qualified for state tournament play in 2022-23 when it was in the 2A field.

The countdown to the start of the 2025-26 high school girls basketball season across South Carolina and the nation has reached the home stretch.
