In Gilbert, two of the East Valley's premier programs—Mesquite and Higley—went head-to-head in a highly anticipated matchup. From the opening tip, Higley set the tone, exploding out to a 12–4 run and immediately seizing momentum. Their defensive intensity and disciplined execution made it difficult for Mesquite to ever establish an offensive rhythm. By controlling the tempo on both ends of the floor, Higley steadily pulled away and ultimately secured a commanding 60–31 victory. Here are the impact players for both teams:

Cowart displayed ability to play both forward positions. She plays with intensity and toughness. I like her ability to clean the glass and she also has a nice turnaround jumper.

Freeman was a thorn in Mesquite's side all night. She made plays on both ends of the floor and caused a lot of havoc on the defensive end. A pure athlete with quickness and a knack for disrupting passing lanes. Freeman continues to prove to be one of the best under the radar guards in the state regardless of class.

Although Mesquite struggled, Gonzales was one of the bright spots in the contest. She is a good facilitator with high basketball IQ. I like her ability to hit shots from deep and I anticipate for her to have a break out season this winter.

Greenwade is one of my favorite floor generals in the state. She is cool, calm, and collected when leading the Knights offense. Don't sleep on her defensive ability as she can lock up opponents all 94 feet. She is one of the keys to Higley's success this season.

Murdough continues to impress as her perimeter game on both sides of the floor elevates. She has a high basketball IQ and is lethal in the pick and roll game. I am surprised more colleges aren't getting involved as I anticipate her stock to spike up into the spring. A solid mid-major sleeper!
