Higley upends Mesquite: Integrators

In Gilbert, two of the East Valley's top programs—Mesquite and Higley—met in a highly anticipated showdown. Higley wasted no time asserting control, jumping out to a 12–4 start and capturing early momentum. Their defensive pressure and disciplined execution kept Mesquite from ever finding a consistent offensive rhythm. By dictating the pace on both ends of the floor, Higley gradually widened the gap and closed out a dominant 60–31 win. Here's a closer look at the integrators who will be essential to their teams' depth as the season progresses.    Billan is another prospect who adds depth to Higley's front court. She is a fantastic rim runner who has good low post scoring ability, rebounding, and rim protection. A smart player who executes her role at a high level. She also provides good vocal leadership in the game and on the bench. A prospect who influences positive culture for the Higley program.     Kerns is on my watchlist for sixth man of the year. She provides good facilitation, scoring, and defense off the bench. I like her ability and willingness to step into her role and make an impact on the game. She will be one of the reasons her team will go deep into the playoffs as she adds depth to Higley's backcourt.     Moreira is a certified bucket. She displayed three level scoring ability, plays physical, finishes through contact, and has the ability to play both guard positions. Although only a sophomore she fills the stat sheet. If teams try to focus on Freeman and Greenwade; it will open up scoring opportunities for Moreira and she has the knack to hit down those big shots!     Mehlberg has great length and a solid platform to make an impact on the game. She displayed good scoring ability especially from long range. I anticipate Mehlberg's role expanding into the season as she will be relied on for her leadership.     O'Dowd is a big time pickup for Higley when she transferred from Tucson Rincon. O'Dowd adds depth at the post position and plays at a high level. She can score from all three levels, rebound, defend, and protect the paint. I am particularly impressed with her ability to hit the three ball from long range which poses a match up nightmare for teams. O'Dowd is also big and strong to bully opposing defenses in the interior.
