Tonight, I made my way out to my first high school game since last Tuesday, and it was an overtime finish between Lake Country Lutheran and Watertown Luther Prep, where Lake Country Lutheran earned a hard-fought win over their conference rivals. However, tonight, I'd like to talk about some players who've impressed me in games I've attended this season and talk about what they bring to the floor for their teams.

Gia Peterson

The Brookfield Academy forward is a solid interior scorer who can finish in traffic and use her size to finish over defenders around the basket. She is a young player in the 2028 class and has plenty of room to grow, but she showed positive signs when I saw her team play Catholic Central earlier this season. Peterson has touch around the basket and can exploit defenses that don't have anyone who can contest her shot around the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='1221076' first='Ava' last='McCarthy']

Most newcomers come into the high school ranks and simply try not to ruffle any feathers when they get their opportunity to get on the floor. However, McCarthy stepped into her debut and gave her team a chance to win because of her aggressiveness and confidence. She didn't shy away from anything and played excellently off the Eau Claire Memorial bench. McCarthy even knocked down three at the buzzer to beat a solid Rice Lake team this season. She has been solid for a good Old Abe team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1229670' first='Lexie' last='Olmstead']

Potentially, the newcomer having the most impressive debut season is Lancaster's [player_tooltip player_id='1229670' first='Lexie' last='Olmstead']. She has been the difference maker in every one of the Flying Arrows' competitive games this season, and she's just getting started. The 5'10 guard is an athletic and rangey kid who has been as disruptive defensively as she's been productive offensively. She's a high-motor player who can make plays on the ball on either end of the floor and will be a name for people to learn over the next few seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id='992501' first='Kinslee' last='Nelson']

The Oshkosh West wing is among the most athletic players in the 2028 class, and will make a play or two per game that will make anyone raise their eyebrows. She has the tools to defend all five positions at the high school level and can be a player who attacks the basket and uses her athleticism to overwhelm defenders around the basket. She is someone who may fly under the radar at the high school level, but she is a scholarship-level talent.
