Southside Battle: Petersburg Versus Hopewell

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>First quarter</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The game got started with a three-point shot from Dionne Morris, which really set the tone for the quarter and, quite frankly, the entire game!  Hopewell had a smothering defense that had Petersburg on its heels from the jump ball after a 10-2 run  Petersburg was forced to call a timeout that didn't end with any good result.  Right after the timeout super sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='541414' first='Makenzie' last='Preston'] was able to get back-to-back steals from the inbound and the rout was on from there! In a span of two minutes, [player_tooltip player_id='541414' first='Makenzie' last='Preston'] had 8 points 3 steals a 3 assists. Dionne Morris knocked down three pointers in the first quarter.  [player_tooltip player_id='663345' first='April' last='Winfield'] had 3 steals 10 points this game looked like it was over before it began  Petersburg was able to end the quarter on a little bit of a high note with a three-point basket by [player_tooltip player_id='1426082' first='Lailah' last='Graves'] but Petersburg was down 40-9 after one quarter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Second quarter</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The second quarter started like the first quarter did Dionne Morris was able to get it still and get a Assist to [player_tooltip player_id='663345' first='April' last='Winfield'] for a two-point basket. Petersburg was able to match a bucket with [player_tooltip player_id='1426346' first='Aaliyah' last='Turner'] finding [player_tooltip player_id='468150' first='Donniya' last='Mason'] cutting to the basket for a layup. [player_tooltip player_id='1426346' first='Aaliyah' last='Turner'] was able to follow her assist with a nice swooping hook shot in the middle of the paint. &nbsp;[player_tooltip player_id='663345' first='April' last='Winfield'] added on to her stats in this second quarter with her secondwith long three-point shot to put Hopewell up by 33 points in the second quarter even though Petersburg was down by 33 points it was able to muster up an improvement in the second quarter Hopewell school 13 points to their 11 but Hopewell had a 53- 20 lead at halftime.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Third quarter</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For the start of the third quarter of Petersburg was able to get into a 3-2 zone that actually slow down Hopewell's production. but Hopewell was still relentless on the office at end as Dionne Morris was able to get a steel and Assist on a layup to stress the lead to 40 points. [player_tooltip player_id='541414' first='Makenzie' last='Preston'] was able to break down her defender to get a nice layup to continue the onslaught. [player_tooltip player_id='468150' first='Donniya' last='Mason'] Was able to hit a long-range bomb from the but hopewell was in full control up 67 to 23 after three quarters.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>4th Quarter</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The fourth quarter Hopewell was able to get some good playing time in for their bench as they were able to only score 4 points the entire quarter. Petersburg had their most productive quarter post in 13 points in the last frame but at the end Hopewell was victorious and a convincing 71 to 36 win!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
