Tropical Storm Somaya Touches Down in Severn, MD, Inside the Gym

<p>The DMV area was awaiting its first winter storm of the season as Annapolis Area Christian hosted a midday matchup against Concordia Prep. Instead, the region was met with Tropical Storm Somaya, as she rained three-pointers inside.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Concordia Prep vs. Annapolis Area Christian: Severn, MD</h2>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">First Half Recap:</h2>   <p>The game opened at a deliberate pace, with both teams working to establish their offensive identity against the defensive looks they faced. The first quarter ended in an 11–11 tie.</p>   <p>Then came the second quarter. Somaya Davis then took over and lead her Eagles to a 11-3 run, as she scored nine points.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Somaya is a freshman by class but plays with the poise of an upperclassman. Her height, size, and skill set present a matchup challenge for any opponent. She can score at all three levels and finished with 29 points, shooting 48 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc. Her picturesque triple-threat stance keeps defenders off balance, while her quick release and consistent deep shooting in transition make her especially difficult to contain.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Kamryn has a smooth game that mirrors her demeanor on the court. Her college-ready frame allows her to survey the floor and make sound decisions. Offensively, her three-point shot is her go-to option, but she is also effective scoring in the post. Defensively, her athleticism enables her to guard all five positions on the floor. She finished the day with 16 points and 5 defensive rebounds.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Second Half Recap:</h2>   <p>The Eagles held a narrow 22–20 lead to open the third quarter, but their full-court pressure soon took control of the game. That defensive intensity fueled a 19–8 third-quarter run, led by Imani and Kenzi.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Kenzi is a high-level point guard who effectively runs the offense and puts her teammates in position to score, finishing with four assists. She can get to the basket quickly for her own shot and knock down the three when left open, ending the game with 12 points. Defensively, Kenzi is a willing and active presence, capable of guarding positions one through three in the open court, while recording four deflections and two steals.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Imani is a high-energy utility player who impacts the game in multiple ways and fills the stat sheet quickly. In 25 minutes, she recorded six rebounds, two assists, four deflections, three steals, and 13 points. Her defensive activity, particularly in the passing lanes, consistently led to offense fast break points.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Watch List:</h2>   <p>Annapolis Area Christian ultimately proved to be the stronger team, pulling out a 56–44 victory. Here are two players to watch: an underrated junior and a freshman earning meaningful minutes early in her career.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Kennedy is expected to step into a larger leadership role next season. Her height, size, and strength allow her to guard positions two through four. Offensively, she is capable of playing the point-forward role, using her ball-handling ability in the open court. She understands how to leverage her frame to get downhill and initiate contact.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">London is a player on the rise, still adjusting to the speed and physicality of the high school game. She had a strong defensive showing, keeping her opponent in front of her and creating three steals along with two deflections.</p>
