3A Final Four Standouts

The 3A Final Four took place on February 27th at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix. In the first semifinal, Window Rock defeated Alchesay 50-42. In the second semifinal, Page won over San Carlos 57-48. Window Rock will face Page for the 3A title on Saturday, February 28th.   Here, I look at some of the standouts from the Final Four    This was my first time seeing Mansfield, and she made an impression. She is tough, poised, and confident. She knocked down multiple threes and didn't hesitate when the defense closed out. Kylie was very smooth off the bounce — understands angles and how to create separation. Plays with a high IQ and doesn't force shots. This is a sophomore with real upside.     Bitselley is still unsigned, but she helped herself. Active motor, strong instincts, and plays with confidence. Can step out and shoot it with range. Moves well without the ball and doesn't just stand and watch. Always around the play. College-ready frame and feel — someone should be taking a serious look.     The freshman was in foul trouble and still nearly put up a double-double. That says a lot. Nice shooting stroke from deep — clean mechanics. Tiana can attack the rim when defenders overplay her jumper. Once she adds strength and consistency, she's going to be an even bigger problem in 3A.     James is a steady floor general. She handles pressure well and doesn't rush the offense. She showed patience and control in running the team. Defensively, her length pops — long wingspan caused problems in passing lanes and on closeouts. High ceiling guard with two-way potential.     Amelia scored nearly 30, and it felt effortless. Got to the lane whenever she wanted — first step is quick, and defenders struggled to contain her. She finished through contact consistently. She also saw the floor well and can drop off passes when help rotates. When she's aggressive like that, she's hard to slow down.     Kimora was a physical presence inside. She nearly had a double-double because of pure effort. Attacks the glass on both ends and keeps possessions alive. She plays with toughness and doesn't shy away from contact. She does the dirty work that wins games.     Tayla displayed a veteran mentality. Came out hunting shots and set the tone early. She knocked down threes and showed comfort in the mid-range. She plays with confidence and doesn't hesitate in big moments. When she gets going, it opens everything up for Page.     Trece is a versatile forward who impacts the game in multiple ways. Can handle it in transition, pass out of traffic, and score from different levels. She seemed comfortable finishing with either hand around the rim. She is skilled, balanced, and understands how to play within the flow of the game.
