Sunday the calendar flipped to February. That means the conference races are heating up and the march to state is on. Over the next few articles, I will highlight some underclassmen, finishing today with the rest of the Freshmen, that I see as potential difference makers down the stretch.

[player_tooltip player_id='877604' first='Sophia' last='Milosh'] and [player_tooltip player_id='888355' first='Alyson' last='Brechtl']-Waterford

It is rare to find a 13-5 team that is statistically led by two freshmen but that is the case for the Wolverines this season. 5-9 [player_tooltip player_id='888355' first='Alyson' last='Brechtl'] leads the team in scoring with a 11.9 average to go with 2.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.2 blocks and shoots 75% from the free-throw line. 6-0 [player_tooltip player_id='877604' first='Sophia' last='Milosh'] leads in rebounds at just under 10 per game to go with 9.9 points, 1.1 assists, and 1 steal per game. Together they lead a balanced group sitting at 6-3 in the Southern Lakes, good for 3rd place, with a huge road game, tonight, against 14-4 Elkhorn Area.

[player_tooltip player_id='1229670' first='Lexie' last='Olmstead']-Lancaster

The Flying Arrows, sitting at 19-1, are led by arguable the best freshman in the state in [player_tooltip player_id='1229670' first='Lexie' last='Olmstead']. Her stat line of 24.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 3.0 apg, and 7.3 steals has Lancaster currently leading the SWC and ranked # 7 in Division 3. The Flying Arrows, with only one senior, look to be a team that will be in the D3 title hunt for seasons to come.

[player_tooltip player_id='879591' first='Lauren' last='Vosters']-Little Chute

[player_tooltip player_id='879591' first='Lauren' last='Vosters'], along with teammate [player_tooltip player_id='879596' first='Hattie' last='Grishaber'], whom I wrote about last week, and three other fellow freshmen, are leading a massive turnaround at Little Chute. With a 2-23 record, last season, and 6 wins over the course of the last 3 seasons things were looking pretty gloomy in Mustang land. That seems like forever ago now! As we sit on February 3rd, the Mustangs are 14-4, 8-3 in the North Eastern conference and winners of 10 straight games. The 5-5 freshman has been solid all season averaging 14.8 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.4 apg, and 3.1 spg and has Little Chute dreaming of a magical run to the Resch Center in March.

[player_tooltip player_id='1241412' first='Gemma' last='Gardow']-Regis

Another powerhouse with only one senior, Regis has exploded out to a 16-2 season and a #3 ranking in Division 4. A main reason for that is the play of the 5-8 Gardow. Providing a solid second weapon, behind superstar junior [player_tooltip player_id='751257' first='EllaMay' last='Cooper'], Gardow has averaged 15.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.5 spg while shooting 52% from the floor, 39% from three, and 68% from the stripe.

[player_tooltip player_id='1231054' first='Ella' last='Thomson']-Lena

The 5-10 freshman center is having a great season for the 16-1 Wildcats averaging 13.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.9 steals, and 2.8 blocks per game. Lena, coming off of a 22-3 season, has not missed a beat and sits at 10-1 good for second in the Marinette & Oconto conference and #7 in Division 5.
