[player_tooltip player_id='541419' first='Kate' last='Harpring'] has had quite a week, first being named the sole representative for the state of Georgia in the prestigious McDonald's All American game and then dropping a casual 42 points playing the final game on her home court at Marist. Harpring has had an illustrious and historic high school basketball career. Having watched high school basketball in Georgia for over thirty years there is no question she deserves to be on the Mount Rushmore of girls hoops in the Peach State. She does everything with a purpose on the court. If you watch her closely 30 minutes before the game Harpring isn't warming up, she is rehearsing what she is about to do in the game. She worked on a ball handling sequence going between her legs twice and behind her back before shooting a midrange jump shot at least 25 times about 30 minutes before the game tipped off. She used that sequence and the same motion to hit several shots right after in the game multiple times. Her intelligence and discipline is a huge reason she is the player that she is today. Incredibly efficient, Harpring values the ball and does not take unnecessary risks while still putting up huge numbers scoring the ball. Her team is 21-2 and playing the best I have seen all season long. Will she be able to write the fairy tale ending to her incredible high school career and bring another state championship back to Marist? It would be hard to bet against her. She will need help which she ha gotten all season and she got that on Tuesday night in the win over Tucker. Several players stood out for both teams.

You can see the confidence growing in Trotman as she has gotten more experienced this season. Trotman looks and moves like a point guard. She is a very smart player with good vision and her teammates were the beneficiaries of several very nice passes from Marya. She is a physically strong kid who wasn't afraid to get in the paint and mix it up for loose balls and rebounds. Marya does a good job keeping herself between the defender and the ball preventing easy steals, a skill that is often overlooked. She kept the communication with her coaches tight and did a good job executing the offense. Trotman also applied good on ball pressure on defense using her wingspan and keeping her hands active.

Peterson is the kind of player every coach wants on their team. She is in constant movement on both ends of the floor bringing a lot of good energy to this Marist team. She is a menace defensively in the half court trap on defense. She is a relentless worker at the top and gets steals, deflections and intercepts passes consistently for the Lady Eagles. She competes on every play and was more than happy to make the unselfish play forgoing an easy shot herself to pass to an open teammate instead.Peterson does a good job turning those into easy points on layups for herself or teammates on the break. Peterson also gives Marist another threat shooting the ball from behind the three point line.

Cooper did a lot of good things for Tucker while being under pressure all game long. Cooper handled the ball well against Marist's half court trap using her vision and passing ability to get the ball in the defense's openings. She did the same off the dribble, getting past the front line of the trap and into the heart of the defense. Harmonie played hard despite being down big and showed her skill by using Euro steps and jump stops to finish at the rim. She is an effective shooter for the free throw line and elbow areas as well as beyond the three point line. Cooper made plays on defense as well, including one play where she stole the ball on Tucker's baseline and went coast to coast scoring on a contested lay up. She had a mother drive attacking the basket that ended in an And 1.

Bradley has good size and length at the wing position and knocked down several long, impressive threes that drew audible reactions from the crowd. A couple of her makes had to be 3-4 feet behind the three point line. She moved very well without the ball and was ready to let it fly when she got the ball in shooting position. Bradley also knocked down a nice 10-12 footer from the baseline keeping Tucker in the game in the first half. Bradley is the kind of player that could get hot and do some serious damage in the region tournament. Her range extends well beyond the normal range for a high school player.

Austin definitely meets the basketball player eye test at almost 6' tall, long with an impressive wingspan. She gave the Tigers a good presence at the free throw line against Marist trapping, zone defense sealing the defender behind her and giving Cooper and Bradley a passing target by extending her arms making herself big. On a couple plays Austin did a nice job pivoting, squaring up to the basket, and attacking her defender. She also used her physical tools around the basket as well rebounding the ball on offense and defense. Against a more traditional zone defense or man to man, Austin could be a matchup problem as a stretch four.
