High School Game Notes: Hutchison at Briarcrest

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As high school basketball season is winding down, the competition and intensity of games are heating up. Briarcrest won the first meeting against Hutchinson. This&nbsp; second meeting isn't ordinary because a Region Championship title is on the line.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I've seen Briarcrest play several times this season because they have ironically been at a lot of the events that I covered. On the contrary, I have only seen Hutchison once this season. The game I attended didn't give me a good evaluation of the players because they simply over powered the other team. With what was at stake, I knew this would be a better game to get player evals.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The game was close in the first half. Then Hutchison came out in the second with a defensive adjustment and broke out to a 14 point lead.&nbsp; Briarcrest made a run in the 4th but it wasn't enough. Hutchison got the win 37-26.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Although Hutchison won the game, Briarcrest are the region champions. I'm assuming that's the case because both squads only loss are to each other. The Penn commit was named a Division II-AA Miss Basketball Finalist earlier this week. In this game, she put on full display why she is a finalist. I did not realize how versatile she is. She started the game offensively playing on the perimeter and taking 3 point shots. On defense, she was at the top of the zone using her length. Later in the game, she moved to the block using her strength and getting shots with her back to the basket. With her length, she was getting steals and blocking shots. She even pulled out a transition mid range jumper. The sophomore didn't start the first game that I attended. She was in the starting line up for this game adding more length to a long Hutchison lineup. Her versatility was on display in this game. She attacked from the perimeter. She posted on the block. She took a high post shot. Her athleticism and length creates problems as a defender.  She is quick off the floor and rebounds out of area. The sophomore started the first game I attended but came off the bench for this game. She plays both point guard and off the ball. She is an aggressive defender. She has quick feet and quick hands. Earlier this week, Molly had a 23 point game. In this game, she was undersized in the paint area. However, she showed her ability to shoot over length.
