Championship week in the Rural Division had the Osprey Nest rocking “louder” than any other division over the three week FHSAA tournament period. The rural division stems from smaller communities and it looked and sounded like the entire communities made the trip to Jacksonville. The teams in this division brought together teams that relied on toughness, grit, and execution. Several players embodied these characteristics and separated themselves through consistent production, versatility, and impact on both ends of the floor. These athletes not only delivered in key moments but helped define the “rural division” energy and competitiveness of the weekend. The following players earned All-Tournament First Team honors in the Rural Division.

[player_tooltip player_id='656075' first='Ashlyn' last='Young'] was one of the top playmaking guards in the rural division championships with her ability to handle the ball and read the defense. Like an option quarterback she surgically dissected her opponent with downhill drives and pinpoint passes when the defense collapsed. Her ball IQ, athleticism, and decision making were on full display on the biggest stage of the season. In the title game, she recorded 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds, while also contributing defensively. Her ability to control tempo, create offense, and make timely decisions gave Williston a consistent edge. Young capitalized on her abilities, instincts, and 6 year varsity experience - having played varsity since she was in the 6th grade.

Solomon delivered the most dominant offensive performance of the rural playoffs, finishing with 25 points and 9 rebounds in the championship game, showcasing efficient three point shooting and quickness off the bounce. In the semifinals, it was her speed that made the difference and her shooting was the key part of the championship game. Defensively, Solomon relied on her speed in quickness to disrupt the opponent's rhythm and offense. Her ability to impact the game in so many ways, made Solomon the leading candidate for MVP of the rural playoffs.

[player_tooltip player_id='1778665' first='Aubreigh' last='Nelson'] carried a significant offensive load for Jay in the semifinals and the rural division finals. She posted 18 points in the championship game, attacking off the dribble and finishing at the rim while also converting from the free throw line. Nelson's scoring ability and aggressiveness kept Jay competitive throughout the tournament. Nelson was crafty and showed a high ball IQ and an elite ability to draw fouls and get to the free throw line. Her length allowed her to get in the lane and shoot floaters and midrange shots without much resistance, especially against smaller teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='1781228' first='Presley' last='Hawthorne'] showcased an impressive skillset at the guard position. Hawthorne has good handles, good change of direction, and good use of angles to neutralize fast guards. Her ability to control the tempo and shift momentum in games was impressive. She shoot the three well and get into the paint for a nice midrange. Hawthorne totaled 15 points and 7 assists in the semifinal, demonstrating excellent vision and control of the offense. BHawthorne balanced scoring with playmaking and was instrumental in setting the tone for Jay's run to the championship.

Smith delivered one of the most dominant defensive performances of the tournament. She finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, 8 blocks, and 5 steals, impacting the game at every level defensively. Her rim protection, activity, and presence in the paint were some of the most impressive display of talent I saw over the 3 week period. Smith had impeccable timing and was just baiting and begging the opponent to challenge her on the inside. In addition to being a constant disruptor, she also contributed on the offensive side of the ball. She was very efficient around the basket. Her athleticism, confidence, and shooting touch allowed her to be effective in the paint, and made her a two way player with the ability to control the game on both ends of the floor.
