Yesterday ended the 2025-2026 IHSAA Girls' Basketball season in Indiana. Last night, the Bellmont Lady Braves won their first State Championship in girls' basketball in program history, taking home the Class 3A trophy!! Following that game, Center Grove came from behind in the fourth quarter to win a 56-53 nail-biter and their first State Championship in exactly 30 years (1996), collecting the Class 4A hardware!! Before we get to the article below, I also wanted to congratulate Bellmont's Bri Converset (3A) and Norwell's [player_tooltip player_id='1137282' first='Macie' last='Saalfrank'] (4A) for winning the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Awards in their respective classes!! Below is a look at six individuals who stood out in last night's action. I have chosen two players from each Championship team and one player from each runner-up team for the 3A/4A All-Tourney Team.

CO-CLASS 3A MVP: Maybe the best thing for Bellmont last night was that Ashley was able to settle in and just be herself. She didn't try to play outside of her abilities, she had a well-rounded game like usual, and she was able to affect winning at both ends of the floor. Still just a Sophomore, Ashley scored 13 points, she grabbed 6 rebounds, and she handed out 7 assists, in addition to blocking a shot. She helps keep her team poised, and it allowed the rest of the team to play confidently and step up as well.

CO-CLASS 3A MVP: Something I hate doing is awarding "co-" anything, but I felt like in this situation, Mary and Ashley (above) were equally important to the flow of the game and the success of the Lady Braves. Mary was strong inside, battling on the boards, defending with physicality, and limiting Roncalli to just 8 offensive rebounds. Mary also posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and collecting 12 rebounds (5 offensive). She also blocked a shot and was a real presence in other ways in the paint for Bellmont.

Unfortunately for Elliot and Roncalli, she was struggling with what the TV broadcast announced as severe cramping in her leg. By the fourth quarter, she was basically playing through the pain and landing/pushing off of one leg. Considering that, her performance was even more impressive. Elliot scored 22 points, she was 3-for-5 from deep, she grabbed 6 rebounds, stole a ball, and blocked a shot, while managing to play nearly 30 of the 32 minutes. Once she gets rest/recovers, look for her to have a big Spring.

CLASS 4A MVP: Gracyn seemed to be everywhere at times Saturday night, and I'm sure it caused Norwell to shake their heads wondering how to find her earlier in possessions and limit her. She was great offensively & defensively, and when it mattered down the stretch, she made big shots and knocked down 2 free throws with 12 seconds left for their final points. In total, Gracyn scored 23 points, she was 9-for-10 from the charity stripe, plus she added 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 steals, and a blocked shot to her performance.

MacKenzie also had a really nice, well-rounded game for the Trojans, and she came up huge at the beginning of the fourth quarter. With Center Grove trailing, 43-38, MacKenzie opened the quarter with a 3-pointer, then turned around and buried another at the 5:22 mark to break a 43-43 tie, and Center Grove never trailed again. She was 3-for-6 from deep on the night, finishing with 9 points, plus she contributed 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in the 56-53 Trojan victory.

Despite the tough loss last night, Vanessa is one of the most decorated players in Indiana's 2026 class from a team achievement standpoint. She has contributed to the Lady Knights' success in a big way over the past three seasons, and I'd expect her to continue that trend at Indiana Wesleyan next year. Last night, she was keyed in on by Center Grove and still managed to score 22 points. She finished 7-for-8 from the free throw line, she pulled down 7 rebounds, and she handed out 2 assists and collected 2 steals.
