The 63rd District Tournament once again delivered the emotion, intensity, and passion that makes Kentucky the heart of high school basketball. Rivalries were renewed, the gyms were packed, and every possession felt like it could change a season. For the players, coaches, and fans, this is what it is all about! The energy was electric, the crowds were loud, and the stakes were sky high as teams battled for district glory and the chance to celebrate at center court!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The tournament brought excitement from the very beginning until the final buzzer! Raceland came out locked in and played with tremendous energy from the opening tip. Their defense set the tone early and their offense followed, leading to an impressive 63-51 victory over Greenup County! The Raceland Lady Rams controlled the pace of the game and showed why they were a dangerous team heading into the championship round.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The other semifinal saw the Russell Lady Red Devils defeat Lewis County in an offensive explosion, 70-19, setting up the expected championship showdown between Russell and Raceland!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Russell came into the championship game with a perfect 7-0 district record and looked focused and ready to finish the job. Raceland entered with confidence as well, with their only district losses coming against Russell. When the lights were the brightest, the Lady Red Devils delivered big time performances on their way to a dominant 61-39 victory and the district championship!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1179158' first='Gabby' last='Oborne'] exploded for 27 points and knocked down five three pointers while also grabbing five rebounds. Gabby had a strong season overall averaging 12.9 points per game and leading the team with an impressive 68 three pointers made!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Senior [player_tooltip player_id='724188' first='Kennedy' last='Darnell'] had a huge night with 21 points and 13 rebounds, dominating inside and recording a massive double double performance. Kennedy led the team in scoring during the season with 14.3 points per game and also led the team in rebounding with 6.6 per contest.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>8th grader [player_tooltip player_id='1311382' first='Kenley' last='Kouns'] added 7 points and 4 rebounds in the championship. Naomi had an incredible season averaging a team high 24.1 points per game while leading the team in total field goals, three pointers, free throws, and rebounds with 10 per contest!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another unforgettable chapter in the 63rd District Tournament was written as Russell cut down the nets and celebrated a hard fought championship! Packed gyms, fierce rivalries, and unforgettable performances once again proved why Kentucky high school basketball is simply different!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
