With the AAU season now underway, it's time for one of the most important items in our year-round coverage – the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2030 Watch List. While the official Freshmen 50 won't debut until fall, this list marks an early spotlight on 20 incoming 9th graders who have already distinguished themselves in a variety of ways in recent months.

Let's be clear: this is not a ranking. It's a recognition. These are players who've shown college-level potential now, either through their varsity play to date, during the AAU season, or both. In the past, every player on the Watch List has gone on to earn top-50 status. Some might even headline that list. But for now, the Watch List is simply a way to highlight important prospects who have already made an impression by the end of 8th grade.

A few things stand out about this year's group:

The 2030 Watch List spans the entire state – 11 players are from the Twin Cities metropolitan region with nine from Greater Minnesota.

Big-school programs are well represented, with nine players from Class 4A and five from Class 3A. There are four from 2A, and two from Class A. Five attend private schools.

Talent is spread across a variety of AAU Clubs. [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] leads the way with five Watch List players across two teams, followed by [program_tooltip program_id='712665' first='Metro' last='Stars'] and [program_tooltip program_id='714566' first='Minnesota' last='Stars'] with three each. [program_tooltip program_id='712687' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] and [program_tooltip program_id='713021' first='West' last='Central United'] place two prospects apiece, while [program_tooltip program_id='712699' first='Minnesota' last='Rise'], [program_tooltip program_id='1229871' first='Southwest' last='Fury'], [program_tooltip program_id='712697' first='MN' last='Crossfire'], Enterprise Elite, and Hoop Habits each appear once.

As always with Prep Girls Hoops prospect evaluations, these selections reflect long-term upside, not current performance. We're focused on which players project to the next level, and this group has already made that case.

The 8th grade post from Hopkins has made plenty of headlines over the last six months. Standing at 6'1, Davis is super lengthy, has a well-built frame, and has the mobility and athleticism to play at the Division 1 level. Marianna excels both as a rebounder and scorer, using her steady hands and soft touch to score in a variety of ways. On the other end of the floor, the [program_tooltip program_id='712665' first='Metro' last='Stars'] forward is a reliable presence in the paint. She plays physical defense, is able to extend out to the perimeter, and shines as a rim protector.

Though she only stands at about 5'4, Denne is not to be underestimated. The [program_tooltip program_id='712687' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] point guard is a relentless, fiery competitor who lays it all out every time she steps on the floor. On the offensive end, Alyse is a fast-paced playmaker who can handle the rock under heavy pressure from the defense. She explodes off the bounce and excels at finishing through contact at the rim. As a defender, the Becker 8th grader is a menace on the perimeter. She's quick, plays with active hands, and is highly aggressive, always aiming to get her hands on the ball.

The [program_tooltip program_id='712665' first='Metro' last='Stars'] standout made a splash in the high school season and is now riding that momentum on the AAU circuit. Standing at 6'1, Fenstra is long, has a strong, well-built frame, and is a smooth, fluid athlete. The Rogers 8th grader has a tremendous natural feel for the game and makes impact plays on both ends of the floor. She's active on the glass, elevates over defenders with ease, and understands how to play with pace. Positionally, Paige possesses a high degree of versatility, allowing her to play multiple positions on both offense and defense.

Helmer, the offensive dynamo from Mounds View, has been on our radar for several years now. In that time she's proven herself as a high level performer both at the varsity level and on the EYBL circuit with [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan']. The 5'9 point guard is a skilled playmaker, three-level scorer, and a tremendous passer. With her quickness, poise, and innate sense of pace and timing, Jaycie makes the game look effortless. Simultaneously, she is a relentless competitor who excels as an on-ball perimeter defender. Regardless of if she chooses softball or basketball, Helmer is a D1 prospect all day long.

Highly determined, and ruthless on defense, Kirchoff is one of the most relentless competitors in the class. Standing somewhere around 5'6, the Woodbury 8th grader isn't the most physically imposing player on the court, but what she lacks in height she makes up for in speed, skill, and an endless motor. Ava shines as an on-ball defender. She uses her quick feet and active hands to hunt down steals, force turnovers, and push the ball in transition. On the other end of the floor, the [program_tooltip program_id='714566' first='Minnesota' last='Stars'] guard is a skilled passer and consistent finisher at the rim.
