Not surprisingly, Helmer was dominant from the get-go on Sunday. What stood out wasn’t how much she could do herself, though.  It was how easily she made everyone around her better. Pictured above, the 5’10 guard from Mounds View has the strength, athleticism and skill to take over whenever she chooses, yet consistently embraced a team-first approach, getting teammates involved and making the right play. Helmer combines confidence and swagger with unusual poise and professionalism for her age. Her feel and understanding of the game are exceptional, and she has just enough swagger to make you sit up and take notice. Already holding multiple Division I offers after playing up with North Tartan EYBL, Helmer looks like she could challenge for the title of Minnesota’s top prospect in the Class of 2030.

The shooting reliability just pops for a player of Helmer’s age. Of the 7 games she played at the tournament, she hit more than 55% of her shots in FIVE of those games, shooting close to 60% in the Championship game against Cy Fair. Helmer constantly kept the defense on their toes and also displayed decisive passing in addition to her clutch abilities beyond the arc. A Steph Curry-type, stock-rising player, Helmer could be one of the top players on the scene by the time she graduates.

It becomes more difficult with each passing tournament to describe Helmer as merely a promising young player. The Mounds View standout, playing up a year on the elite North Tartan 15U EYBL squad, continues to perform like one of most-gifted incoming freshmen in Minnesota. Averaging over 10 points per game at Summer Jam, Jaycie once again demonstrated why so many people are realizing just how great she can be. She’s physically strong for her age, highly skilled, and remarkably poised under pressure. Helmer scores from all three levels, creates opportunities for teammates, and competes relentlessly on both ends of the floor. What’s most obvious is her presence. Helmer has that “it factor” and never appears rattled, always seems in control, and plays with a confidence and feel for the game that simply cannot be taught.

Helmer, the offensive dynamo from Mounds View, has been on our radar for several years now. In that time she’s proven herself as a high level performer both at the varsity level and on the EYBL circuit with North Tartan . The 5’9 point guard is a skilled playmaker, three-level scorer, and a tremendous passer. With her quickness, poise, and innate sense of pace and timing, Jaycie makes the game look effortless. Simultaneously, she is a relentless competitor who excels as an on-ball perimeter defender. Regardless of if she chooses softball or basketball, Helmer is a D1 prospect all day long.
