Midwest Extravaganza: 15U Sunday Stars

The final games of this year's Midwest Extravaganza are over, and we're looking back at some of the best players from Sunday's round of games. Here, in no particular order, are the standout 15U players from Sunday's action. [player_tooltip player_id='1232031' first='Avery' last='Ramsey']'s had a jam-packed weekend. On Saturday, she played the first game for [program_tooltip program_id='871458' first='Illinois' last='Spartans'], then left to play a soccer match for her high school team. And on Sunday, she returned to dominate once again for a Spartan team that went 4-0 this weekend.   Avery was a marvel in a win over IL Hustle. She scored a layup off the game's opening tip-giving her squad a 2-0 lead just 4 seconds into the game. And that was only the beginning.   Avery is smooth when she drives to the hoop. She can get around contact, and has a natural passing ability when she needs to find an open teammate. She can score in bunches, but she's also unselfish-making the extra pass when she spots a player who has a better look.   And on defense, Avery is a nightmare to match up against. She'll hound you all up and down the floor; stealing inbounds passes and converting quick baskets... or poking away a steal and converting for a layup. Her hands are always active and looking for a way to disrupt the offensive motion. Avery said after the win that pressing on defense is one of her favorite parts of the game.   Avery scored 14 points against the Hustle, and then dropped another 20 points against Neviim to finish a perfect 4-0 weekend with her team.     Allie was instrumental in helping her DCBA squad finish the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record.   She's a player who sees the floor very well; and shows off that skill by making full court passes on the fast break, or delivering a difficult pass while running the offense. She's an extremely smart player who always has her mind focused on where the ball needs to be: exactly what you want out of a floor general.   Allie's strong on defense as well, showing constant hustle. I saw her get a chase-down block from behind in one of her team's wins.   Allie has a natural ability to take the game over from start to finish. She'll drop 3's on you, and she'll make you pay if you give her an open lane to the hoop. She scored 19 points in her team's final game of the weekend.     Alice had a sensational showing in her Breakaway team's win over Take Over on Sunday afternoon. She lit up the court to the tune of 21 points-all of which came on 3-pointers.   Alice is obviously an incredible outside shooter. She fires off shots with a quick release, and has deadly aim from behind the arc. With those seven 3s made, she only missed 1-2 shots from distance in that game.   But her deep shooting isn't even her favorite part of her game. Alice says she loves playing defense-which is another area in which she's frustrating to play against. She has active hands, and will mix it up with players who are 5-6 inches taller than her.   Alice's deep shooting also allows her to be a strong passer. The threat of her shots can open up teammates for looks in the paint, and Alice is a smart passer when she sees an open player.     Sophie is a great player with the ball in her hands. She can drive the lane, and has a nice midrange game. She uses her size and strength with precision when she's driving to the rim for a layup.   She's a great downhill dribbler. She gets a determined look on her face, and goes right into the teeth of the defense-looking fearless as she puts in a layup. Sophie scored 16 points against Breakaway, and then another 18 against [program_tooltip program_id='714232' first='Pink' last='Elite'].   Sophie's also a strong leader for her Take Over team. They fell behind big double-digits in a game against Breakaway, but Sophie helped get the game back within striking distance in the final minutes.     Kiana helped her [program_tooltip program_id='714232' first='Pink' last='Elite'] team to a pair of wins on Sunday. She dropped in 16 points against Chapman, and closed her tournament with 11 points in the finale.   Kiana goes strong to the basket, with great footwork and an ability to get a shot up through the defense. Her size gives her a serious advantage; giving her an ability to rip down boards and jump right into transition mode.   She's strong with the dribble, and is scrappy enough to get on the floor and dive for loose balls. Kiana says that she's been improving her spin move in recent years, and can maneuver well off two feet.     Torey helped lead her Neviim team to a 3-1 performance this weekend. She scored 20 points against the Spartans, with four 3-pointers, and earlier in the day had another 13 points against Heart Over Hype. She's really strong when she handles the ball, and can drive hard in the lane and distribute. And her midrange game is on point; I saw her convert some really tough shots over the course of the weekend.   Torey's also a strong defender, with active hands and an ability to force mistakes. She says that she also prides herself in being an uplifting teammate, and helping other players get better.
