Avery Ramsey Avery Ramsey 5'7" | PG/SG Maine South | 2029 IL ‘s had a jam-packed weekend. On Saturday, she played the first game for Illinois Spartans , then left to play a soccer match for her high school team. And on Sunday, she returned to dominate once again for a Spartan team that went 4-0 this weekend.

Avery was a marvel in a win over IL Hustle. She scored a layup off the game’s opening tip-giving her squad a 2-0 lead just 4 seconds into the game. And that was only the beginning.

Avery is smooth when she drives to the hoop. She can get around contact, and has a natural passing ability when she needs to find an open teammate. She can score in bunches, but she’s also unselfish-making the extra pass when she spots a player who has a better look.

And on defense, Avery is a nightmare to match up against. She’ll hound you all up and down the floor; stealing inbounds passes and converting quick baskets… or poking away a steal and converting for a layup. Her hands are always active and looking for a way to disrupt the offensive motion. Avery said after the win that pressing on defense is one of her favorite parts of the game.

Avery scored 14 points against the Hustle, and then dropped another 20 points against Neviim to finish a perfect 4-0 weekend with her team.

Avery was a defensive stopper for Illinois Spartans 15U, and her relentless hustle made her impossible to miss at the Great Lakes Kickoff on Sunday. One of her highlights happened when Avery hustled to save a loose ball going out of bounds, then sprinted right back into the play to block a shot attempt in the paint with authority. She closed out hard to block shots on the perimeter, picked off passes from the gap, and turned a steal into a speedy layup in transition. Avery split defenders with a dribble burst on her drives to earn trips to the free-throw line. She made great entry and kickout passes for assists.

Avery Ramsey Avery Ramsey 5'7" | PG/SG Maine South | 2029 IL is a freshman guard who really stood out with her ability to handle the basketball and control the pace of the game. She plays with a strong feel and composure that you don’t always see from younger guards, especially at this level.

What impressed me most was her confidence. Even as a freshman, and with a new team, she looked comfortable running the offense and making decisions with the ball in her hands. She wasn’t rushed, didn’t force things, and did a great job of keeping her teammates organized while still being a threat herself.

Her ball-handling allows her to create space and navigate through pressure, and she shows a natural ability to read the defense and make the right play. Whether it’s pushing the tempo or slowing things down, she understands how to control the flow of the game, which is a big-time skill for a guard her age.

As she continues to grow and gain more experience, she’s going to be a very important piece. The poise, confidence, and feel she already has as a freshman really stand out, and it’s exciting to think about how much she’ll continue to develop.

I really like Ramsey’s defensive pressure she puts at the top of the press!  She does a great job disrupting opposing teams from setting up their offense. Finds her teammates coming off pics- places the rock perfectly! Tough player! (Featured Photo)
