NYSSWA All-Stars from Section 2 Who Return in 26-27-Class D

The New York State Sportswriters Association recently announced its New York all-star teams for 2026. Several players from Section 2 were selected at the various levels. Many of the all-stars are seniors who will move on to the college ranks. However, there are also several talented underclassmen who will return in 2026-2027. Here is a look at some of the NYSSWA all-stars from Section 2 who will return next season.    [player_tooltip player_id='1276520' first='Sophia' last='Ryan'] is an electric player who never fails to impress. Ryan was the highest-achieving Class D state all-star from Section 2, earning first-team recognition. She was also the 17U game MVP at a recent Gym Rat Challenge event. Ryan is a combo guard who can direct a team's offense, find teammates for easy baskets, or score anytime she wants. Ryan led Spa Catholic to the Class D sectional crown this season for the first time in school history, taking over in the final seconds of the title game. Ryan is a three-level scorer. She is a lethal 3-point shooter with unlimited range. She can stop on a dime for a pull-up jumper or beat defenders to the basket. Ryan is a fabulous ball-hander and passer. She has superior court vision. Ryan eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark this year and should add plenty to it next season.     Ava Cormie received the distinct honor of being named to the all-state fourth team as just a sophomore. Cormie's Argyle team went out early in the sectional tournament, but this shows how much she is respected for her game. She was named an Adirondack League first-team all-star. Cormie set a school record this season with a 40-point game. Cormie is a pure scorer. She can put the ball in the bucket from all three levels. Cormie is an exceptional 3-point shooter with unlimited range. She is highly skilled at attacking the cup off the dribble and can pull up in the short range. Cormie should have an even stronger season in 2026-2027 and could move up higher as a state all-star a year from now.     Izzy Colon earned honorable mention all-state for Class D. Colon is a junior combo guard who led Northville to the sectional title game, but the Falcons came up short of their second consecutive championship. Colon wears many hats for her team. She is the primary ballhandler and directs the offense. Colon is an excellent defender who causes havoc for opponents. She is a three-level scorer. Colon can beat defenders off the dribble or score points from rebounds for putbacks. Colon can hit the elbow and other midrange shots. On occasion, she can step out and knock down 3-pointers.     [player_tooltip player_id='1154057' first='Audrey' last='Fiske'] earned an honorable mention delegation, but expect her to rise the rankings next season. With sidekick McKenzie Johnson off to the college ranks, more of the Hartford scoring load will be on Fiske's shoulders. Fiske is a double-double machine. Rarely does a game go by that she doesn't record double-figure points and rebounds. Fiske is built like a guard, but plays much bigger than her height. Her strength is the ability to read the ball off the rim, which positions her to turn rebounds into putbacks. She is an intelligent player who understands the game. Her leadership skills are off the charts. Fiske has a very soft touch in the lane and is a fierce defender.     [player_tooltip player_id='1276530' first='Addison' last='Whitbeck'] is another player who received all-state honorable mention, but I expect her to climb the ladder in 2026-2027. Whitbeck was a member of Spa Catholic Section 2 Class D champions team. Whitbeck is a three-level scorer who can put the ball in the hoop in a variety of ways. Whitbeck has a very polished drop step move in the post. Whitbeck also possesses a move in her arsenal where she catches on the block and spins to the middle of the lane for a short jumper. She can put the ball on the floor and drive past defenders. Whitbeck is a solid shooter. She can connect on shots around the lane, such as the elbow and foul line. Whitbeck can step out and knock down the 3-point shot when given the opportunity. She is an effective defender and stellar rebounder.
