The PGH MI State Tournament brought another competitive weekend of basketball to MSA Fieldhouse, with teams from across the state taking the floor looking to make statements against strong competition. Throughout the weekend, I spent most of my time evaluating the 15U, 16U, and 17U divisions, where the level of play and intensity remained high from game to game.

One thing that consistently stood out was the amount of high-level playmaking on display. Guards and wings controlled the tempo, broke down defenses off the dribble, and created scoring opportunities for both themselves and their teammates. Whether it was drive-and-kick action, transition reads, creative passes, or timely buckets, these players showed a strong feel for the game and the ability to impact winning in multiple ways. With college coaches and spectators lining the sidelines, several prospects stepped up and proved they can run the show when the ball is in their hands.

Ashlyn, a guard for KBA, made a strong impact at the PGH MI State Tournament with the way she controlled the game offensively. She scored the ball efficiently, consistently getting into the paint and finishing at the rim. Ashlyn also showed her ability as a playmaker, creating opportunities for teammates with smart passes and strong court vision. Her decision-making with the ball stood out throughout the weekend, as she kept the offense flowing while making the right reads. On the defensive end, she competed hard and played with toughness, bringing energy as a scrappy on-ball defender.

Lili, a guard for MBA, stood out at the PGH MI State Tournament with her all-around playmaking ability. She attacked the basket confidently and finished through traffic on multiple occasions. In transition, Lili did a great job pushing tempo and delivering accurate passes to teammates running the floor. She also created offense with strong drive-and-kick action, consistently making smart reads once the defense collapsed. Her handle allowed her to navigate through pressure effectively, and she stayed active defensively, coming up with multiple steals throughout the weekend.

Clare, a forward for [program_tooltip program_id='952340' first='The' last='House'], made a strong impact at the PGH MI State Tournament with her effort, physicality, and aggressiveness throughout the weekend. She consistently finished through contact around the basket and ran the floor hard in transition, turning hustle plays into multiple scoring opportunities. Clare also controlled the glass with strong rebounding and helped her team secure extra possessions. Inside, she did a great job sealing defenders to gain position and stay available around the rim. Defensively, her active hands created problems for opponents, coming up with several deflections from the help side by poking the ball loose. Overall, Clare played with an aggressive mindset that helped set the tone and kept her team energized and moving forward.

Isabella, a guard for [program_tooltip program_id='922389' first='Hoopers' last='Clinic'], delivered an impressive showing at the PGH MI State Tournament with her ability to put pressure on the defense. She consistently got downhill and used crafty finishes around the rim to convert scoring opportunities. Isabella also showed solid playmaking ability, finding teammates with smart passes and keeping the offense organized. When attacking, she stayed low and controlled her body well on drives, making her tough to contain once she turned the corner. Defensively, she was active in passing lanes, jumping several throws and coming away with multiple steals. She also made an impact in transition, pushing the pace for easy buckets and then following it up by getting to the rim again on the next possession to spark a run for her team.

Aubrey, a point guard for [program_tooltip program_id='1239258' first='HB' last='Elite'], looked every bit like an elite floor general at the PGH MI State Tournament, commanding the game with poise and high-level control. She dictated tempo from start to finish, consistently displaying advanced court vision and awareness that kept defenses in constant rotation. Aubrey proved she can score at a high level as well, knocking down multiple three-pointers and forcing defenders to extend well beyond the arc. She also showcased a polished floater in the lane, giving her a reliable answer when attacking help defenders. As a facilitator, she made consistently elite reads, delivering pinpoint passes and creating clean looks for teammates, while also bringing strong defensive activity and attention to detail on that end of the floor.
