Hoopers That Stood Out in 16U Division at Brawl at the Palms

This weekend marked my first trip to the beautiful new Wellington Sports Academy for Prep Girls Hoops Brawl at the Palms, and the atmosphere matched the level of talent in the building. With seven courts running throughout the weekend, the event featured a strong collection of players from across the Southeast, particularly from Florida and Georgia where the programs are based. College-level talent, competitive matchups, and emerging prospects were on display all weekend long, making for a great environment to evaluate players in meaningful games in the 16U division I covered. Here are some names who stood out to me in the early action:    AC made an impact with her ability to create offense off the bounce and stay composed under pressure throughout the games I watched. One of the first plays I saw, she jumped a passing lane for a steal and attacked the other way to get to the free throw line, showing aggressiveness in transition instead of shying away from contact. She consistently got to the rim quickly with her handle, including a strong baseline drive, and finished an impressive euro-step with her left hand around traffic. AC had an impressive weekend all the way from Friday night until Sunday afternoon as one of the most exciting 2029's in the state.     KK brought energy and athleticism every time she stepped on the court and consistently flashed her upside on both ends of the floor. The lefty guard attacked downhill effectively, especially going right, where she finished strong at the basket multiple times. She also knocked down the three-ball confidently and immediately followed it up with a block defensively on one series, highlighting her activity and length around the floor. Her combination of athleticism, motor, and physical tools gives her a lot of long-term potential.     Maggie consistently played with effort and toughness throughout the game while also showing confidence offensively. Her three-ball looked smooth coming off her hand, and she mixed that in with strong drives where she got to two feet and finished plays with strength and balance. Defensively, she made multiple hustle plays, including a transition deflection and a save along the sideline that resulted in possession for her team after throwing it off her opponent. She also knocked down a runner to close the half and competed hard from start to finish in every game. Maggie has boosted her stock in my eyes over the course of this spring/summer travel ball season.     Sofia brought good activity and physical tools to the floor throughout the weekend. Her long frame helped her make plays defensively while staying active around the basketball, and she also made an impact on the glass with a putback bucket off an offensive board. Offensively, she attacked downhill effectively and showed a nice turnaround fadeaway that highlighted her touch and versatility.     Rose consistently made winning plays throughout the weekend and showed a strong blend of skill and toughness. She displayed clean footwork creating separation on a step-back jumper and reacted quickly off an inbound catch to get her shot up while keeping the ball high and compact. She also made her presence felt on the glass with an offensive rebound score and a tip-in putback. Her size and frame give her intriguing tools moving forward, and her willingness to dive on the floor reflected the energy and effort she played with all weekend long. Rose has gained a lot of attention and traction over the past two weekends with her play.     MJ stood out with her blend of size, athleticism, and versatility. She used her quick burst well to attack space and create offense while also showing good vision as a passer. Offensively, her jumper looked smooth with strong rotation on the ball from deep and in the mid-range. Defensively, her hops and athletic tools allowed her to make plays around the rim, including several impressive blocked shots. I'm excited to see more of her game in the future and follow her progress.
